Spirit Week: Neon Day!
Walk-a-Thon Success!
PTO Meeting - Oct 2 at 6:30
Important Arrival Notes
Walkers & Bike Riders:
We have many students who walk or ride their bikes to school. To help keep them safe at Mill Street, we ask that parents refrain from driving on Mill Street at arrival and dismissal times. Our amazing new car rider area has ample space for all car rider traffic and we are moving cars through there efficiently.
Car Riders:
The south doors are open for car rider drop off beginning at 7:30 each day. We will use the 2 right lanes for Thorntown student drop off. Only vehicles who are dropping off Webo Jr/Sr High students to catch a bus should be using the left lane. This will ensure these students do not miss their bus from being caught up in elementary traffic. We realize we sometimes have drivers who are new to this procedure, and it won't go perfectly, but please help us with this procedure by communicating it to family members or others who help with morning drop off.
The south drop off doors will remain open until 7:50am. Students arriving after that time should report to the front entrance and sign in at the office. This will ensure students have time to make it to their classrooms prior to the tardy bell at 7:55. For student safety, please do not drop students off at the south door if there are not staff members present for duty. There are several of us out there for arrival between 7:30-7:50 each day. If you do not see staff members there to supervise, please bring your child to the main entrance for drop off.
Breakfast:
Students who wish to eat breakfast at school should arrive as close to 7:30 as possible. Breakfast is served until 7:50, but students arriving that late for breakfast will likely be tardy for class.
Child Lures - Think First and Stay Safe, Body Safety Presentations
Child Lures Think First and Stay Safe⢠is one of the oldest, most widely used abuse prevention programs for youth. The program will be presented to youth at Thorntown Elementary School the week of October 23 (Date has been pushed back from the week of Oct 9). This presentation provides age-appropriate information, videos, and activities to help children recognize unsafe situations and sexual abuse. Your child will learn the proper names for body parts, what constitutes safe and unsafe touches, abuse resistance techniques, and how to identify their trusted adults.
While student participation is strongly encouraged, parents may opt out for their child by returning the attached OPT OUT form to the school by October 23. Please contact the school with any questions. Thank you!
