Red Ribbon Week
The week of October 23-27 we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week in EUSD. Red Ribbon week is a nationwide campaign where schools unite to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The theme for this year’s Red Ribbon week is Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free! This campaign gives us an opportunity to educate students about a healthy and drug-free lifestyle, while helping our school remain safe from alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We have a fun schedule of activities, lessons, and spirit days planned for Red Ribbon Week. Take a look at our RRW flyer!
Fall Festival Parade of Characters on Friday, October 27th at 8:15 AM
The Broncos will be celebrating Fall with a Fall Festival on October 27th. When the bell rings at 7:55, students go straight to class for attendance. We start the day with a Parade of Characters on the upper blacktop from 8:15 - 8:45 AM. Families are encouraged to join us for the parade. The family viewing area is the sidewalk above the blacktop and the ramps on the side.
Students are invited to dress up as their favorite book or movie character. To promote a safe and responsible school culture at North Broadway, we ask that students dress culturally sensitively, free of blood, and have no weapons of any kind. Large costume accessories and masks that make it difficult for students to see or walk safely should not be worn at school. Students should arrive at school in their costumes and have a set of clothes to change into following the parade. Students may place costumes in their backpacks or an extra bag from home.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS)
PBIS Platinum Recognition
California PBIS, recognized North Broadway Elementary School of the Escondido Union School District for successful PBIS implementation at the PLATINUM level. Our schools acheivement within the California PBIS Recognition System, reflects excellence in the implementation of the core features of PBIS. Congratulations to North Broadway Elementary School!
Bronco Store & Rooms Behavior Point
We are excited to introduce the Bronco Store for the 2023-2024 school year. This year the students will be earning points through the behavior feature in Rooms as part of our school-wide PBIS reward system. Behavior points in Rooms are not a report of your child’s behavior, but are purely a reinforcer and students will be using them to purchase rewards at the Bronco Store. We are very excited to introduce some fun new store items this year!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month!
Research shows that bullying can be stopped, but true changes require consistent education and intervention. Every student at North Broadway will be receiving our PBIS Bullying Prevention lessons in support of this month’s school-wide Bullying Prevention campaign. Students will learn about empathy and kindness, how to identify bullying, increase understanding of the harms of bullying, and know how to respond and/or report. We will also be introducing our brand new 23-24 Peace Patrol Team at our October 13th Friday Flag. The mission of our Peace Patrol team is to build a peaceful school and they will be visiting classrooms to promote bullying prevention through games and activities.
Please continue to follow our newsletters for more important and helpful information about the ways we implement PBIS at North Broadway!
Meet Mrs. Simone Haleftiras, our Social Worker
Hello Families!
My name is Simone Haleftiras and I am proud to be celebrating the start of my 9th school year as the School Social Worker for North Broadway. The role of a school social worker is quite special and unique as we have the opportunity to make a positive difference not only for the students we work with directly, but for an ENTIRE school of children and staff. Our day can include individual and group counseling, student leadership opportunities, classroom lessons, attendance and behavior support, and many other important ways of enhancing student emotional well-being and improving academic performance. Through a framework called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), we also work to establish a positive student culture and create a safe and effective learning environment for all students.

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Screening
The Escondido Union School District is pleased to continue to offer the Gifted and Talented Education program. For GATE identification, all 2nd-grade students will participate in universal screening in November. In addition, parents and teachers may recommend students not previously screened in grades 3 through 8 to be screened for GATE eligibility. Parents can pick up the Parent Background and Input Form in the front office and should return it to the school by Friday, October 13. A school team will review requests and determine which students will be eligible to be screened in November. For more information, please review this GATE flyer, visit our district website or stop by your school office.

EUSD Framework for the Future: Learner Profile
You have been hearing about the Framework for the Future and the EUSD Learner Profile by Dr. Ibarra. For October, we will be working on what it means for our Broncos to be an Empathetic Collaborator. An Empathetic Collaborator is an individual who actively listens, engages, and recognizes diverse perspectives to achieve a common goal. Empathetic Collaborator is one of the six whole-learner outcomes that comprise the new EUSD Learner Profile in our visionary Framework for the Future. In our schools, an Empathetic Collaborator ensures equity of voice, ideas, and compromise; builds on the strengths, interests, and assets of others; and honors others’ experiences and points of view through respectful dialogue. Here in Mrs. Long's 3rd grade class students were demonstrating how to be an Empathetic Collaborator as they analyzed a text.
EUSD Nutrition Program
How do we celebrate birthdays and special events in EUSD? Due to Nutrition Guidelines for Birthdays, we are not able to accept food items, even store-bought, to be part of celebrating an individual child's birthday or special event.
You may ask how do we celebrate birthdays at North Broadway Elementary School? We have two unique ways that we celebrate.
First, in the main office you can fill out a form to have your child's birthday acknowledged on the Marquee on the corner of North Broadway and Country Club. The cost is only $5. If you cannot make it into the office, you can print the form, include $5 cash, and send it in with your child. If it is a surprise please put it in an envelope addressed to the Main Office.
Second, our Student Council has added a fun way to acknowledge each child's birthday. Student Council will be delivering each child a card on or near their birthday to let them know we hope they have a great day and that we are happy they go to school at North Broadway Elementary.
