Here we go again! It is with great pleasure that I share your child’s teacher for the 23-24 school year. We are beyond excited to have your family join us again this year. Your child’s teacher for the 23-24 school year is LIVE to view in ParentVUE. In order to login, you may use the following steps:

1. Navigate to the ParentVUE portal

2. Login to your account, or contact the office for login support - 651-674-1100

3. Select the “Class Schedule” from the side bar

4. The top teacher name will be your child’s homeroom teacher. They may also have additional names listed for math, reading, or specialist time.

5. You may select “student info” for additional information about your child’s enrollment.

Mark your Calendars for Conferences: Fall parent-teacher conferences will be held on November 20-22.

Critical Information - Please make time prior to the start of the school year to share any information required for us to ensure your child is safe and supported at school – legal documents, medical needs or medication administration – let us know when you are here during your WELCOME DAYS conference. If information changes during the school year, please remember to update the school.

This school year will again feature WELCOME DAYS. Welcome Days allow for a “soft start” to the school year as we welcome children and families back from extended time away. We ask that each family sign up for a time to visit Sunrise, using the ParentVUE portal. You may select the “conference” tab from the side bar to choose a time. Welcome Days provide families with an orientation to the grade level, time to meet teachers, vision/hearing screening (grade 1, 3, 5 or new to Sunrise students), and more!

Welcome Days have been combined to two days as follows:

August 30 and September 5 - Between 9 am and 6 pm

WordWare Lunch Accounts

It is important to note that free breakfast and lunch will be provided to students in Minnesota Public Schools for the upcoming school year. If you plan to deposit money in your family meal account, you can do so through WordWare or in the cafeteria during WELCOME DAYS. This will be used if a student goes back for a second lunch or has additional food items beyond the standard lunch serving.

Your family could be eligible for discounts on a variety of school expenses such as activity and field trip fees. To find out if your family is eligible, complete the Application for Educational Benefits. A hard copy of the application can be found here, or it can be completed online through your family’s WordWare lunch account.

Student pictures will be taken on WELCOME DAYS. Be ready with a smile when you come! Each student will be able to take a school picture in the gymnasium, and there is no registration ahead of time. Proofs will be sent home after welcome days with order information.

NBAPS has released the 2023-24 Student-Parent Handbook, and your family is strongly encouraged to familiarize yourself with the contents. The student-parent handbook can be found on this page.

• Before school drop-off is in the front of the Sunrise River Elementary School (west side). Please help ensure smooth traffic flow by having kids ready to exit the car as you pull around. If you need to stop, or get out of the car, please pull forward and pass the crosswalk to do so. Please do NOT double park in front of the building. If you are dropping off for the start of the school day, please do so between 7:30 and 7:45 am.

• After school pick-up: If you are coming to pick up at the end of the day, please remember kids will not be released until after school has ended at about 2:25 pm. Remember to pull all the way up – past the building – to the stop sign. Kids will look for you at the north end of the line.

Bus information is expected to be available the week of August 21, and will be mailed to families when available. It can also be accessed by logging into ParentVUE. Please feel free to contact the transportation office at 651-674-1030 if you have questions about busing related issues, or stop in during Welcome Days.

If you plan to pick up your child from school on a permanent basis, please fill out this parent pick up registration form. We will assign you a parent pick up number and card to use our electronic pick up system.

• AM - Youth Connections is fee-based childcare located at the Education Center. Youth Connections opens at 5:45 am. Sunrise students will take a bus to Sunrise to start the school day.

• PM - Students attending Youth Connections will receive a pass at the end of the school day, and be bused to the Education Center after school. Youth Connections staff is open until 6 pm.

HallPass is our background check system. Please remember to bring your ID with you if you are checking in to the office during the school day. You will notice, we are piloting a self check-in kiosk in the front vestibule this fall.

Sunrise River School is an allergy-aware school and staff work hard to be sensitive to the needs of students who may be allergic to foods, scents, etc. If your student has allergies important for us to know, please contact Kristen Swalboski, school nurse, at (651) 674-1194.
