Our Mission:
Principal's Message
Staff met all day on Friday to learn from one another and work together to improve our teaching and support of our students. Friday also included meals made by our Baking & Pastry and Culinary Arts classes, served by students, which made the day even better.
Last week our counselors hosted a dual credit meeting for 10th and 11th graders. If you did not attend but are planning to go to Running Start, you need to watch the videos and sign up on the Google form found on https://www.meridian.wednet.edu/mhs/blog/2022/03/10/dual-credit-information-spring-2022/. If you don't know what dual credit means or what is available at MHS, please check out that same website.
This week our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be finalizing their selections of classes for registration on March 21st. Each grade level will meet with the counselors during T3 and get their registration worksheet. Please review their worksheet and sign off on the course selections before the 21st.
As spring sports begin their competitions, MHS Leadership will host auditions on the 14th and 15th for the district talent show. For more information, please contact Patrick Ames at pames@meridian.wednet.edu.
Looking ahead into April, 10th graders and some 11th and 12th graders will be participating in state testing as one of their ways to meet a graduation pathway. More information will be presented later this month.
Go Trojans!

Teacher Feature
Ryan Killian - History Department
Mr. Killian first started student teaching with Mr. Kurz in 2015, he kept working at Meridian until 2019. He then went to Morocco and taught there for two years, now it’s his first year back at Meridian. His favorite thing about teaching at Meridian is the fact that it’s a small school. He went to a really large school so he feels like there are lots of interesting things at smaller schools. Mr. Killian chose teaching as his career because when he was in ninth grade there was a career day at his school. His teacher talked about how when you’re a teacher there’s always something new and exciting each day. Mr. Killian said every day, week, and year is a new challenge, plus he loves talking about history. He also loves to be able to connect with students other than just as a student to a teacher, but as a person to person. Mr. Killian’s favorite free time activities are snowboarding, biking, reading, and gaming, when he used to game. Speaking of snowboarding and gaming, Mr. Killian also does the ski bus and he helps with the e-sports club. Mr. Killian says that he really enjoys working here and when he was in Morocco and heard that he had the opportunity to come back he knew that he would enjoy coming back to Meridian. One of Mr. Killian’s highlights from working at Meridian is when he used to help with the drama club and all the work that went into doing the production. Even though it was really stressful it was a lot of fun. His other highlight is actually from when he was student teaching. His first year at Meridian he student taught freshmen, which were the class of 2019. The next year he was teaching sophomores, so he taught them again, then again as juniors, and finally as seniors. He feels like he went through high school with them. Especially since he left in 2019 with them as well.
Students say that their favorite thing about Mr. Killian is “his attitude and passion to teach,” ”he’s really nice” and “is very passionate.”

NATIONAL NAPPING DAY
National Napping Day, March 14th, was created in 1999 by a Boston University professor and his wife. William Anthony Ph.D. and his wife Camille Anthony created this holiday to spread awareness on the importance of getting enough sleep and its benefits. The holiday was meant to help make up for the amount of sleep lost when the hour changes. The date was chosen because studies have shown that people are already at their most tired and sleep deprived after daylight savings changes. The change of the hour really makes a difference, but National Napping Day can make you feel like there was no change at all.
Request Transcripts Through Parchment
Meridian High School has partnered with parchment.com to fulfill transcript requests for current students and MHS alumni. Transcripts are securely sent electronically to colleges and universities across the nation, resulting in a reduction of lost documents at the financial aid offices. The service is free of charge to current students. Alumni pay a small fee. Please make sure that your intended college accepts electronic transcripts.
Please find the “Order transcripts through Parchment” link under Families & Students/Resources on the MHS website. Current students may call Mrs. Brinkman or Mrs. Waterman to receive their Parchment access code at the MHS office 360-398-8111.
Attendance Information
