CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
We would love to send out a HUGE thank you to Modern Woodmen of America for supporting our school library. They coordinated with the library and our local bookstore and purchased over 25 books for our collection. We are starting off the new year with some amazing new books! Kids are thrilled and are checking these books out!
3rd GRADE SWIM LESSONS
This week the 3rd graders in Mrs. Babcock's class began their weekly swim lessons at the Bath Area YMCA. Students will be learning to swim once a week, thanks to funding from the WCS PTA. Mrs. Babcock's class will be doing their lessons on Wednesdays from 1/4 through 1/25, and Mrs. Keefe's class will do their lessons on Wednesdays from 2/1 through 3/15.

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
It seems I have heard a lot of folks telling me how hard it is to get into the doctor's office to be seen. There are so many choices, Convenient MD, walk in clinics, Telehealth, or a trip to see your own doctor. It may sound old fashioned, but your own doctor is ALWAYS the best place to start. If you have a sick child and they need to be seen, the first call should be to their Primary Care Physician's office. Remember the reason you chose your own doctor: they know your child, have a written record of visits, and are creating a medical history for you to look back on. If your doctor cannot see your child, then you may wish to use a walk-in clinic, but be prepared for 3 (or more) HOURS of wait-time. Unfortunately, this is the norm in these sick times. Remember that you know your child the best, but a prolonged fever of over 101 degrees is sufficient reason to call the doctor, as is a respiratory infection or prolonged vomiting, which can lead quickly to dehydration in small children.
In addition to sick visits, it is very important to make appointments for Well Child checkups. This helps to create a complete history for your child; to track illnesses and show a clear picture of what healthy looks like for your child. Remember to KEEP those appointments once they are scheduled. Consider how frustrating the scheduling process is, and respect that many people are trying to be seen. Broken appointments, if routine, can be a reason for dismissal from some medical practices.

FROM THE ART ROOM
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
As a school we raised $387.97 by collecting change. This money goes to support local families who are in need and the classroom that raises the most money will display the coveted "Purple Penny" in their room for all to see. Mr. Harrington's class won by a hair, bringing in $76.35. In second place we had Mr. Huston's class with $76.32, and in third place, Ms. Moran's class raised $36.90. Thank you to all who participated!
You know it's Odyssey of the Mind (OM) season at WCS when students start asking for large amounts of cardboard, egg cartons, and toilet paper rolls! OM starts this week and WCS has teams in 1st/2nd grades, 4th/5th grades, and 6th grade. Thanks to volunteers we are offering the program to more students across more grades than at any time in the last five years at WCS. This year WCS is planning to bring 21 students to compete at the state tournament on March 25th, 2023 at Noble Highschool. Cheer on our teams by wishing them luck as they tackle some challenging and wacky problems using their critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity! If you are interested in learning more about OM at WCS contact Anita Lichman at anita624@hotmail.com.
This is the place to get all your WCS-branded clothing and accessories.
