Hi Sierra Families,

We began our first unit in our Social-Emotional Learning program, Harmony this week. This unit explore understanding how everyone has connected emotions, thoughts, and actions; strategies to use more helpful self-talk and to focus on a growth mindset; and how these skills promote positive group dynamics. Students learn about:

• recognizing their own and others' emotions
• how situations influence their thoughts and emotions
• how emotions, thoughts, and actions work together
• emotional regulation and supporting strategies
• using a growth mindset and flexible thinking

Be on the lookout for additional information from you child's teacher about this program, and ways that you can support this at home. We hope that by providing students tools, they are better able to manage challenges that come their way.

Have any gentle used clothes that you need to purge? Our nurses office is still in need of children's pants and shoes. Donations can be dropped off with our office staff.

Hello Dragons!

By now all your kiddos should have come home with books and their book bags. Please take the time to review the library flier that is in the bag so you know what day your student needs to return their book and how to take care of our books. We have about 8,000 books in our library and many are well loved. In the case a book gets any damage, please make sure to have your student return it to the library as soon as possible for us to try and repair before it goes out on the floor for other students to enjoy.

Hopefully your 2nd thru 5th graders are familiar with taking Accelerated Reader quizzes. Each month these students can earn prizes for reading books and taking quizzes! It’s that easy! Prizes start with scratch and sniff stickers and go up to gift certificates. At the end of the year, one from each grade 2-5 will receive a Highest AR grand prize bucket made from great prizes donated from our supportive community.

Also, if you are interested in participating in something fun, our friends at Face in a Book in El Dorado Hills will be hosting author Erin Dealy, as she presents her new book Christmas Ahoy! They will be having a fun boat contest, information is in the link below.

Placerville Union School District families are invited to an awesome cultural event being held at Schnell Elementary School in Placerville on Friday, September 15th from 4:30-7:00pm to celebrate Hispanic heritage month! There will be a free dance performance by IMBA Sac (ballet folclórico and danza azteca) and traditional dishes from various Latin American countries for sale as a fundraiser for our school. Come join in on the celebration!
