Joan Austin Jaquar Family Update
April 14th, 2021
Dear Families,
Welcome to our new weekly update! I hope you enjoy the format! Each week we will highlight a few interesting happenings at school and also include important dates. If you need anything, please call our office! (emails and phone # below)
I am celebrating the return of our students and enjoying being in the building with each of them. It feels great to see and hear kids laughing and giggling!!!! Thank you to our families for supporting our safety and pick up/dismissal protocols.
Our enrichment classes are up and running and students and staff are really enjoying themselves! We have the following classes: Cooking Class, Make Your Own Comic Strips Class, Scavenger Hunt, Indoor Gardening, Drawing Class, and a Dance & Movement Class. These classes run through May 7th. Our plan is to have more enrichment opportunities next fall for all students!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bailey

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello JA families! The past two weeks we have revisited the Zones of Regulation that we use at JA. This helps students identify emotions and communicate how they are feeling in order to self-regulate. The Zones of Regulation is based on the four primary colors with green being regulated and red being very dysregulated. Ask your child to talk about the four colors and the feelings associated with them. You may also want to ask what strategies they use when they are NOT in the green zone? It is important to remember that we may be in a few different zones at one time, and that is okay. What is important is how we respond and use the strategies that help us regulate and return to the green zone. I have provided two exercises as a strategy for remaining in or getting back to the green zone. I have also attached the Zones color squares for you to use at home if you would like, and the emotions wheel with emotions listed in each color category. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Have a great week!
