Weekly update
Don't forget, Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day so there will not be any school. Enjoy your three day weekend.
Valentine's Day Parties are just around the corner on February 12th. We will not be accepting any outside items, such as food or cards to be sent to school. Students will create Valentine cards and bags at school. All treats will be provided by the school. We believe this is another step to ensure health and safety this year. Thank you for understanding.

MAP Winter Testing
We are continuing with winter MAP testing! Please make sure your child is at school everyday that they are healthy. We want to see how much they have learned and grown from fall to winter testing dates. It is always best for students to take their test with their teacher and peers when possible. Also, make sure they get to bed early and arrive at school on time for a free breakfast!
Jan. 19-21 K & 1st will MAP test in reading and math.

Ways to Help Your Student Prepare for Standardized Tests
As parents, we want to help our children as much as we can. We do not like seeing our students stressed or worried. Unfortunately, life is full of stressors. We as parents can help ensure that our children are their best at many tasks. Test taking is one of them. We have different standardized tests that are required throughout the school year. We stress to our students that we want them to do their best so that we are able to see their growth. This also helps the teacher determine what areas of growth that we may need to work on.
I recently read an article at www.colorincolorado.org titled “Parent Tips: How to Help Your Child Prepare for Standardized Tests”. In this article it gave some great tips on what you can do as a parent to prepare your student for testing day. On the day of the test it suggests:
· Make sure your child had a good night’s sleep the night before along with a healthy breakfast that morning.
· Make sure you child is prepared to take the test.
· Make sure that your child stays calm if they get test anxiety. Maybe you can work with your child with calming strategies if test taking is a trigger.
The article also gives strategies that you can use on a daily basis just for you and your child to stay on top of the school year. If gives examples such as:
· Make sure your child is staying on top of their assignments.
· Help your child develop a positive attitude toward school. This includes healthy study habits and thinking skills.
· Make sure your child has good attendance.
· It’s good to stay in close communication with your child’s teacher.
· Look for educational programs and games you can use at home.
· Encourage your child to read at home.
· Help your child learn how to follow directions.
All of the examples mentioned in the article will help your child be more successful at school. Let’s have a great second semester to our school year!
Health and Wellness
Thank you for continuing to send your child with a mask to school to help keep them and others safe.
Please continue to use the form at go.sdale.org/covid to report any exposure or positive test for COVID-19. This form will go to a COVID team and they will call you with a return date for your child. We are happy to help you fill out this form. Please call Bayyari during school hours and ask to speak with the nurse to assist you. Our office staff is also available to help.
Please be mindful of new COVID-19 quarantine guidelines. You may contact Nurse Alicia at 479-750-8760 or ameza@sdale.org if you have any questions.
If your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, they may return to school on day EIGHT if they are symptom free with a negative test on day SIX after exposure. Please provide documentation of their negative test results when they return to school.
