Ms. Romo's Report
First, I am excited and elated to continue serving the Goodrell community as principal! We have a lot of good work going on and we have opportunities to improve and continue growing. I welcome any feedback and input that you may have as we continue to travel together on this journey!
Secondly, we could really use your support in reminding your student to wear a mask for the safety of the Goodrell community. Covid is still alive and causing harm and the only way to ensure protection is to follow CDC guidelines of wearing masks properly and social distancing. We appreciate your continued support regarding this matter.
Lastly, this school year is almost coming to an end! Please continue to check communication regarding end of the year wrap up details for testing, returning computers and hotspots. 8th grade families, communication will be coming soon about celebrating the completion of middle school and the transition to high school. May the excitement begin!

Learner Profiles
IB Learner Profile Focus - The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. At Goodrell Middle School we focus on different traits of the IB Learner Profile each month. In our classes, we discuss how to embody these traits and then teachers nominate members of our IB community who truly embody these traits.
In the month of April, Goodrell students learned about two learner profiles: Reflective and Knowledgeable. Reflective learners give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and experience. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development. Knowledgeable learners explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. In doing so, they acquire in-depth knowledge and develop understanding across a broad and balanced range of disciplines.

Let’s have a strong finish to the end of the school year: As we begin our final month before summer break, I wanted to thank you for doing your part in maintaining social distance and wearing masks. I know it has been a long year and it’s easy to fall out of these habits, but let’s finish the school year strong as you continue to do these things.
A reminder to 6th Graders: As you start making summer plans, remember to schedule appointments for you Immunizations if you haven’t already received you Meningitis and Tdap shots. You will not be able to start 7th grade until the Nurse has gotten your immunization record that shows that you have received these immunizations.

April saw the return of inter-scholastic competition as our boys and girls track and field teams took their talents to North High School to run, jump, and throw against teams from Harding, Hiatt, and Hoyt. The track and field season was fairly short at four weeks long, but our students learned a lot of new skills after missing last year’s season. It was great to see the kids out on the track competing again and it felt like one of the first “normal” events to happen in over a year. We also had runners from our boys and girls teams that got the opportunity to race at the Drake Relays in the middle school 4x100M relay. Both teams raced well considering their limited amount of time to practice and race on a track and they were great representatives of Goodrell!
Soccer season started on April 19th for our 7th and 8th graders and they have gotten two weeks of practice under their belts. Soccer will also feature competitions against other schools and both teams will travel to James Cownie Soccer Complex in the coming weeks to play some games. The boys will play on May 10th and 17th and the girls will play on May 13th and 20th. This season marks the first with Brion Oakley as the boys head coach. Patrick Lowe is his assistant coach, and the girls team is led by Eric Galvin and assistant coach Brooke Nelson.
