These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items.

BUDGET HEARING Watch
Larry Mayfield, Executive Director of Finance & Operations
Mayfield gave a high summary overview of the budget. The board will adopt a 4-year budget plan.

Consent Agenda

The Board approved the consent agenda but pulled WVC dual credit contract. The Board discussed the need for clarification of the transferability of WVC offered college in the high school courses to four-year universities, student communication prior to enrolling in the courses and high school teacher qualifications to teach the courses. District staff was directed by the Board to bring back answers to these questions before they will approve the contract.

ACTION ITEMS Watch

Wenatchee Valley Technical Center - State Required 5 Year Plan Approval
Deputy Superintendent, Jon DeJong
Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center Director, Pete Jelsing


DeJong and Jelsing presented the Board with the State’s required 5 Year Plan for approval and answered questions about the plan and CTE demographic data. The Board approved the 5-year plan.


Contract with the City of Wenatchee to Hire an Additional School Resource Officer

Superintendent Gordon explained that he feels this is the best move for the District and that the contract with the City of Wenatchee allows us to provide enhanced services across the district. The addition of a second School Resource Officer (SRO) will allow for greater coverage of the middle and elementary schools as well as increased parent engagement and student relationship building. Discussion among the Board was in support of this cooperative agreement and the value of using resources to support the addition of the second SRO. The Board approved entering into the contract with the City of Wenatchee.


2019-20 Levy Request
Larry Mayfield, Executive Director of Finance & Operations
Administration recommended Board approval of the levy of $9,065,601 for 2020 and $9,428,225 for 2021 estimated to increase the current $1.50 levy by $.30 to $1.80 for both calendar years. The Board approved the levy request.

BOARD COMMUNICATION Watch

Knox commended Superintendent Gordon on the Opening Day festivities. She commented that she was inspired by both Dr. Gordon’s comments and the keynote from Huston Kraft. Knox also shared that she hopes the board ASB reports from students will continue this year.

Jaecks also commented that the media coverage, exposure, and presence of Superintendent Gordon has been outstanding. Sandberg echoed this praise and noted that she appreciated all of the hard work that the staff and cabinet have been doing. Vega-Villa added that she was appreciative of the prioritization of the Latinx community in the Superintendent's outreach plan. Hemphill ended that she feels like the board’s heart is in the right place and thanked Superintendent Gordon for positively positioning the district to carry out the important work of educating kids.


Superintendent Gordon commented that he appreciates the work the staff does to make our schools amazing and that there is great opportunity ahead to do great things together for students.
