WEEK OF 10/08/23
Principal Ponderings
Good Afternoon Blackhawks,
I hope you all enjoyed the 3-day weekend. I used the time to get some long overdue home projects done. It always feels so good to check things off the list! Speaking of lists, believe it or not, we are already looking ahead to the Afterschool Ski Program and are hoping to get lists of possible volunteers and interested participants. We are still working out the details and the Board will discuss the ski program at this week's Board meeting (Tuesday, October 10th, 5:30 pm)
- Lessons will take place after school (Most likely on Fridays)
- We hope to bus students to the mountain in time for their lessons.
- All students will need to be signed out by 5:30 pm.
- Parents may bring their kids to the mountain (instead of busing) and may also choose to stay and ski after 5:30 pm. Students arriving early or staying late need to have a parent/chaperone on site.
The week ahead features a couple of fall favorites - a visit from the Plainfield Fire Department to Kindergarten on Wednesday morning and the annual Stone Soup festivities for students in grades K to 4 on Friday.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Best,
Audra Bucklin, Principal

FROM THE NURSE
Important Reminders from the Plainfield School Nurse
Please review this brief summary of the most up-to-date CDC Covid protocols. PES follows the NH DHHS guidance which is currently one and the same as the CDC guidance. There are a lot of viruses going around right now. While Covid numbers have been low here at PES so far, please be reminded you must still test when symptoms are present A positive Covid test requires 5 days quarantine and 5 days of additional masking. Let’s work together to keep our numbers low and our attendance (for both staff and students) strong by preventing the spread of Covid to the extent possible. We have covid tests available in the main office and nurse’s office. Please remember sick absences/notices need to be sent to schoolnurse@plainfieldschool.org as well as office@plainfieldschool.org. Nurse Beth will contact you if further information is needed.
Student Flu Clinic October 20th
Friday October 20th starting at 9AM we will be holding our annual student flu clinic at Plainfield School. Nurse Beth sent forms through Alma. Please note that the state cannot accept any electronic signatures for consent, so parents will have to physically sign consent forms. Please send forms to Beth Clifton, School Nurse. Also note that forms must be dated no more than a week prior to the clinic. So save these forms until after October 13th then feel free to sign, date, and send them to the nurse.

CHARACTER STRONG - OCTOBER
As we move into October, we will be shifting our Character Strong focus from Respect to Responsibility. We define responsibility as "taking action and understanding the impact of our choices." Please keep an eye on your email for a weekly note with different "purposeful pursuits" you can discuss with your child at home!

CLASSROOM NEWS - 6th Grade ELA (Parker)
Poetry
We took full advantage of several beautiful days to activate our senses. One day we conducted a sensory walk all over the fields, focusing on our different senses and collecting images. A few days later we rolled out the yoga mats and soaked in our NH Autumn experience. After gathering two sets of notes and brainstorming about the best parts of Autumn, we created poetry to honor the imagery. Both poets spotlighted here went in unique directions with their pieces. We are happy to share them with you.
AUTUMN
By James Underhill
The summer heat is fading,
It's turning into fall.
All the leaves are waiting
To make the trees look small.
The animals are leaving,
The moon starts to glow.
Through the woods, they're weaving
Soon falls the first snow.
APPLE PIE
By Mariel H. Giacomo
I woke from my warm bed,
awakened by the scrumptious smell of apple pie.
I looked in the mirror and saw my head,
all my hair was piled up high.
I bit into the apple pie,
Right from the oven, so still warm.
Accidentally poked my eye,
Got a little on my arm.
