SWJH Transition Information
Dear Rising 8th-grade (current 7th grade) Families,
Dear Parents and Students,
As principals of Helen Tyson Middle School, Southwest Junior High, and Har-Ber High School, we are excited about the upcoming school year. We are committed to working together to ensure your child’s success. Your child is in for a one-of-a-kind experience from middle school to junior high to high school. From extracurricular activities, ENCORE, and Advanced classes, our schools have a tradition of excellence established by great faculty, staff, students, and parents. We look forward to working with you to continue our legacy of success.
SWJH has a strong reputation of academic and extracurricular excellence. SWJH students perform at the highest levels in state assessments, in athletics, and within the fine arts. This excellence begins with a faculty that is committed to the achievement of all students. Furthermore, SWJH students hold themselves to high standards. The goal at SWJH is clear: Help each student to reach his/her full potential and promise.
The transition to junior high school is exciting. We will host a “Future Cougar” Night on February 25th at Southwest Junior High to give you and your child the opportunity to learn more about SWJH and the courses we offer. We also welcome you to explore our course offerings and informational videos about each course on our transition information page located on our school website under the Parents tab. You will also find important dates linked to our newsletter, and we will use Facebook to advertise the various events that will become available this spring and summer. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you have through the transition process as you move from middle school to Southwest Junior High School and then on to Har-Ber High School.
Remember our goal is to graduate from Har-Ber High School. At Har-Ber High, students have the opportunity to enroll in classes that match their interests and their goals in life. At HBHS, students enroll in one of five different Houses. Each House offers specific classes that provide students with unique learning experiences, skills, and knowledge that is connected to a specific given career field. Students may take classes in the medical field, computer programming, construction and engineering, robotics, marketing, agriculture, TV production, and the arts. Students may also enroll in Advanced Placement and concurrent classes. Currently, Har-Ber has 29 AP classes and several concurrent classes. The goal of HBHS is to personalize education for all students and to help each student achieve his/her dreams in life. At Har-Ber, all students matter!
Our goal is to make the transition from middle school to junior high to high school as easy as possible. Please contact the school office to speak with a counselor if you have questions about registering for classes, graduation mapping, or transitions from one building to another.
Sincerely,
Patrick Scott, HTMS Principal Dr. Curtis Gladden, SWJH Principal Dr. Paul Griep, HBHS Principal
