We made it! It's officially Spring Break! Whoo hoo! We certainly finished off with a bang today with "Spring Into Break" at BMS and "Spring Extravaganza" at BES. Students and staff enjoyed special enrichment activities throughout the day to include Mystery Reader, wiffle ball, dog tricks, special crafts, spa treatments and more! It was a great way to enjoy each other's company before leaving for what we hope will be a restful and relaxing break for everyone!

To all of our Brookwood families who will be traveling over break: safe and happy trails to you! To all of our students: Please remember to Be Brookwood over break! That is, Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Kind!

Ms. Norma has passed the Golden Horseshoe along to...Ms. Pearson! According to Ms. Norma, Ms. Pearson is always kind, patient and understanding of everyone she works with. She has a knack for quickly developing a strong rapport with students, and is always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she sees a need. Congratulations, Ms. Pearson, on earning this esteemed award!

Students in Mrs. Johnson’s second grade class have been diving into Unit 4, Jobs in Our Community. Throughout this unit, students choose a job to research, learning about the roles they play in people's lives and the community around them. They learned about specifics such as what it takes to pursue a specific profession, how the profession serves the community, and the many factors that affect how the job gets done. They also explored fact vs. opinion, where students did a ‘write-the-room’ activity sorting out which statements were fact or opinion. We then dove into a vast collection of books, exploring the different jobs and finding which careers interested us. We then worked with partners to examine the resources we have, figuring out which texts will help us in our research and which texts may not provide enough information. Finally, each student chose the profession that they will be learning about over the next few weeks. We can’t wait to dive into our first research question after Spring Break!

Over the past two weeks, future Physical Education teachers from Carthage College have been observing some of our Personal Wellness classes. The Carthage students even had an opportunity to lead an activity and receive feedback from Mr. Guth on their teaching. At Brookwood, we are so proud to be a school that colleges and universities turn to as examples of quality instruction and to be a resource to learn from. The quality programming here makes Brookwood well known around local colleges and universities. Be proud Brookwood!

Happy spring break, Mustangs! I hope you find time to get outside and stay active while we’re out of school! Track season will begin after break, so if you plan to participate please make sure you have a concussion form on file. If you have already submitted one for a previous sport this year, then you are good to go!

We need your help to get more families to support the Box Tops program. The more people that participate, the more our school can earn to help get the supplies it needs!

PLUS, you can earn a bonus for our school by inviting your friends, family, and other parents to sign up and participate in Box Tops.

Academic Lab will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when school is in session.

• Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.

• At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.

• Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.

• Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.

• The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).

Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.

Throughout the school year Brookwood has many opportunities for parents to partner with the school through volunteering. Some of these will include, but not limited to, chaperoning field trips, assisting during classroom activities, large school or district wide events, etc. To ensure the safety of all our students, all volunteers need to submit and pass a background check. These forms can be completed ahead of time and individuals will be added to the approved volunteer list. This is good for the school year. If you intend to volunteer, feel free to complete the attached forms and send the forms to your child's school office. Thank you for your cooperation and involvement.
