The drop in temperatures this week hasn't stopped our children from playing and learning outside! Instead, we've embraced the cold and taken several of our science sessions outdoors, measuring temperatures, investigating ice and frost patterns and looking at the impact of cold weather on the local wildlife!

This week has seen several changes in school, with the introduction of a new class structure, but our fantastic children have blown us all away with how quickly and beautifully they have adapted to this! We are delighted to now welcome our 3-4 year olds into the hall for our daily whole school worship. Our singing liturgy has certainly become a lot more animated!

There will be an information evening for parents on Thursday 1st February, 3:30-4pm about the Multiplication Tables Check that Year 4 will take in June 2024.

The event will give information about how to support your child at home with preparation for the check by practising times tables and recalling them up to 12 x 12 at speed using technology.

The session, with Miss Pitchers and Mrs Hough, will give practical advice and guidance.

All Year 4 parents/carers are welcome to attend!

We are beginning a new numeracy scheme in our Early Years (nursery, preschool and reception)!

Ten Town comes highly recommended by other local primary schools.

This week, in St Nicholas, we've begun our new number scheme and have introduced our Number of the Fortnight! Our focus number is one and the children have been exploring different ways to represent this!

We’ve had a lovely week in St Francis using Superworm as our book. On Wednesday we imagined that a new villain that Superworm would need to save us from. Take a look at our monsters we created.

In RE, we thought about the story of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. We thought about Jesus as the light of the world and painted our own candles.

This week in Science we have been learning about states of matter. We investigated items to see if we thought they were solids, liquids or gases. Then we used our knowledge to sort pictures into solids, liquids and gases.

This week, we started our new history topic: World War II. To begin, we considered the background to the war, including how hyperinflation affected Germany. We learned that paper money became worthless very quickly. Then, we designed our own objects made from paper money including artwork, book jackets, a suit, money hats and handbags.

Following the success of freeze pop Fridays in summer, we are going to launch Treat Fridays! These will be the last Friday of every month with a variety of treats on offer!

Our first treat Friday will be next week (Friday 26th January) with hot chocolate and popcorn. A stall will be on the playground at the end of the school day.
