Parent Information Night! Wednesday at 6pm @ BES!
Dear BES Families,
Please make sure to come THIS WEDNESDAY to BES for the Parent Information Night! We will begin at 6pm. Not only will we be discussing how we address academic systems in our elementary school, we will also be having fun activities in conjunction with the 7 Mindsets. The 7 Mindsets is our social-emotional learning program and it is FANTASTIC! Come connect and learn! We will have a raffle where one lucky Broadmoor (and Rockville) student can win lunch for their class on the playground! We will also have the annual volunteer training offered at the end of the Parent Information Session! See you there!
This week is our START WITH HELLO week! It is a nationwide initiative sponsored by the Sandy Hook Foundation. We encourage students to reach out to others to help everyone feel included and remind them that they belong at BES! Check out our daily themes below and START WITH HELLO! It's that easy!
Check out the Upcoming Dates! section below for volunteer training, PTO meeting info, and more.
Let's have a GREAT week!

Attendance Matters!
Is your child on our chronic absentee list? If they have missed only 2 days already this year, the answer is yes! Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of school, this includes excused and unexcused absences. Elementary school attendance sets the foundation for middle school, high school, and workplace attendance. Build those skills starting at the early years for more success later in life!

September Mindset: We Are Connected!
This week we are recognizing ‘Start with Hello’ week. Start with Hello is an initiative aimed at
addressing youth isolation and violence by fostering connection and community in our schools. Each day, we will highlight the importance of greeting your peers, noticing those around you that might be alone, reaching out to the people around you, including others, getting help when you are worried about someone and creating a community where all students feel like they belong. Start with Hello week aligns perfectly with the mindset “We are Connected” which we are focused on during the month of September. I am spending time with each classroom this month reading the book, Nerdy Birdy.
Nerdy Birdy is a great conversation starter for what it means to be a good friend and how we can find things in common with people even if at first glance we are different. I love reading a good book with students and then having discussion about what they got from the book and what it has to teach us!
This week, I hope to see you at the Parent Information Night at BES. Bring your students and enjoy
some fun activities & crafts while learning about the mindsets that we will be covering this semester –We are Connected, Everything is Possible, and Attitude of Gratitude. Don’t miss it!

Coach Whiting's Corner!
Our school is getting ready to kick off the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (KHC)! This year, we are working to help all our students, staff and families learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR. It’s easy to learn and even our youngest students can play a part by calling 911 and finding a trusted adult. And, as always, we will all be learning how to take care of our hearts and minds, while helping raise funds for kids with special hearts!
Join us by signing up today! Download the AHA Schools app or visit http://www2.heart.org/goto/broadmoor.
Get started on FINN’S MISSION where you and your family can help create a community of lifesavers by learning Hands-Only CPR!
WHY Kids Heart Challenge? Phil is WHY.... Broadmoor Wildcats are WHY!
Phil isn’t a heart survivor… he saved a life
because he completed Finn’s Mission.
