Operation Gratitude Candy Collection
Dr. Henson's offices act as a collection point for extra Halloween candy. Once the candy is collected it is distributed to Military units (Ft Hood soldiers came to Burnet last year), the local Fire and Police Departments, and Veterans organizations to say THANK YOU for their service. It is a really neat program. Last year we collected over 400 pounds of candy in BCISD!!! Dr. Henson will throw a pizza party for the class that collects the most candy (by weight) for each grade at each school. Candy will be collected on Nov 5th, so students will have a week after Halloween to bring in their donations. See flyer below!
Update to Visitors on Campus!
Visitors to Campus: We are pleased to announce that the district's policy for visitors on campus has been recently updated. Visitors to campus will be limited in the following ways from October 20 - December 1, 2021.
Invited or scheduled visitors may volunteer on campus with activities such as reading to a class, helping in the library, assisting teachers with special classroom projects or activities, or assisting with PTO activities.
Parents of elementary students may walk their child to the classroom door after checking in at the front desk with their ID per normal visitor procedures.
Visitors to elementary and middle school will not be permitted to eat breakfast or lunch in the cafeteria. This will allow the District to continue to monitor case counts and ensure they remain low before lifting this restriction. The campus administration will also spend this time on developing procedures to help address the issues of cafeteria seating capacity for visitors and supply chain challenges for school meals and utensils.
By December 1, BCISD will publish any updates to visitor limitations based upon public health guidance, local health data, and experiences from the first month of school.

Student Attendance Including Leaving Early
As part of the state attendance laws, we must track both full-day and partial-day absences. BCISD has had a practice of informing parents of full-day absences for many years. This year, parents of students with early check-outs will receive a letter to communicate the number of days your child was checked out of school early in addition to the letters regarding full-day absences. If your child is being checked out for a medical reason, please provide a note from your physician the next school day so the early check-out may be excused. For the 2021-2022 school year, early check-outs are not being utilized to determine truancy, however, they are being tracked to grow awareness. In order to comply with state attendance laws, this may be changed in future school years.
At Shady Grove, teachers plan for and provide a full day of learning from 7:40 am to 3:20 pm each day. When students are checked out early, they are missing critical instruction that impacts their academic growth. We appreciate your partnership in limiting absences and early check-outs to the minimum that is necessary for your child's well-being.
Car Line Reminders
We have observed that some cars are driving past the line of cars on CR 200, turning into the fire lane, and then cutting into their lane in front of all of the cars who are following the appropriate car line procedures. Be kind in line!
Other general reminders:
-Help us keep the line moving as quickly and safely as possible by staying in your car, seating your student on the right side of the vehicle, and giving goodbye hugs and kisses before the drop-off line!
