ADA and Interactive Accessibility
Smore supports ADA and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
What does this mean?
Smore can help you provide ADA compliant newsletters to your community.
Our ADA feature includes a customizable bar that lets users adjust font size and enable high contrast mode, enhancing the visual accessibility of our newsletters. This feature is available for all Educator Basic, Pro, Premium, and Smore for Teams users.
The ADA bar will automatically appear on all newsletters for accounts with these subscriptions
How to access the Accessibility Bar if you are on a Premium Plan:
1. Finish and publish your newsletter
Click "Publish Changes" on the top right of the Editor.
2. Click "Preview"
Once you've published your newsletter, "Preview" will appear on the top right of your published newsletter next to "Edit newsletter". Click "Preview" to view your newsletter as your audience will view it.
3. Find the Accessibility Bar on the top of your newsletter
Visitors to your newsletter will be able to use a screen reader because they have control over the font size as well as access to the "High Contrast Mode."
How to access the ADA bar as a recipient
1. Click the "Translate" button
This button can be found at the top of the emailed newsletter.
2. Access the Translation and ADA bar
On the right side of the newsletter, you'll see the ADA bar (and the Translation feature, if you're on our Premium Educator plans). To adjust your newsletter, click on the relevant option.
Visitors to your newsletter will be able to use a screen reader because they have control over the font size as well as access to the "High Contrast Mode"
FAQs
Can I remove the Accessibility Bar or change its location?
At this point, there is no way to remove the ADA bar or change its location.
Are the emailed newsletters ADA compliant as well?
Since an emailed newsletter is essentially a screenshot, some of the interactive features (including the Accessibility Bar) are not accessible through this version. In order to use the ADA features, your recipients will have to access the online version of the newsletter by clicking anywhere on the emailed image or on the Translate button.
