Innovative Teaching, Learning and Leading with George Couros
Meaningful change happens when you first connect to people’s hearts...George Couros
September 6, 2023 was a full day of learning for the York Central School staff as we welcomed Mr. George Couros to our campus. Mr. Couros is a world-wide leader in innovative teaching, learning and leading. He spent the day inspiring our staff to explore the "innovator's mindset," creating incredible learning opportunities that support our students' success, in and outside of the classroom.
"By being curious, collaborative, and open to new learning, we can truly inspire our students to not only be prepared for the real world, but ensure that they make the world better than it is now" George Couros
Throughout the day Mr. Couros focused on relationship building between teachers and students as well as among the staff. Building relationships is not just for our students, but for the entire school community, Mr. Couros shared.
"The more we see relationships as the core in what we do, whether it is with students or adults, the more likely we will be to create conditions where all learners, not just students, can excel," George Couros
Thank you to Mr. Couros for spending the day with the York Central School staff - your inspiration was contagious and we will carry it throughout the school year.

"If you want to inspire meaningful change, you have to make a connection to the heart before you make a connection to the mind," George Couros

York Middle/High School STEAM Floor wins Renovation-Honor Award
Time to celebrate! The York Central School District STEAM Floor earned a Renovation - Honor Award in Learning By Design’s Fall 2023 Architecture and Interior Design Awards of Excellence contest. STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
A jury of seven education and design professionals blind-reviewed, scored, deliberated, and selected York Central School’s STEAM Floor as the sole recipient of the Renovation - Honor Award among 102 other designs submitted for consideration. York Central School’s STEAM floor will be featured in the Fall 2023 issue of Learning By Design Magazine.
York Central School Superintendent David Furletti said the STEAM floor concept resulted from the district’s vision to refine and enhance students’ technology skills to better prepare them for the changing workforce and higher education trends.
“We want York graduates to be competitive with their peers throughout the region,” Mr. Furletti said.
The 7,000 square foot STEAM wing is located on the third floor of the middle/high school building and features state-of-the-art classrooms for STEAM instruction, which includes courses in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Construction on the STEAM wing started in spring 2022 and concluded in the fall of the following school year.
CPL Architecture, Engineering, and Planning located in Fairport, NY designed the area that incorporates contemporary classrooms equipped with high-end computers, high-speed data connectivity, green screens for video production, and smart screens. It also features flexible classrooms with movable walls to allow collaboration between classrooms. The furniture is modular to create a modern and inviting learning environment. The students who take classes in the STEAM wing say they feel inspired when they step into the environment. Click on the video to hear from Seniors Allie and Jake.

Athletic Director's Corner with Mr. Orman
I hope everyone is enjoying this great Fall sports season. The weather has been amazing and as usual our Knights are representing our community with pride on the courts, fields and courses.
As the weather changes and the contests carry more weight it's easy for emotions to rise. It is of the utmost importance that our spectators remember that these are High School contests and sportsmanship and proper spectator behavior are an expectation for those attending contests.
- Positive cheering to support our Knights!
- Respect for our opponents, officials and game personnel
Not adhering to good sportsmanship and these guidelines, may result in the spectator being removed from the game. If a spectator is asked to leave a game, one additional game suspension will be enforced.
We want you in the stands cheering for our Knights! Loud, Proud, and Positive, but please let the players play, the coaches coach, and the referees administer the rules of the game to the best of their ability.
Good luck to all of our teams as they close out the season and start their run in sectionals. Let’s be a shining example of classy small town support as we move to these bigger stages.
Go Knights!
