Spotlight on CTE by Paty Yepson
The STEM program allows students to gain real world experience, giving them a boost for their careers. There’s a lot more connections throughout the community, which is a great way for students to find jobs. Mr. Herring, as well as many other teachers, has a great relationship with his students, especially the ones he's seen grow every year.
“I love watching all the new classes expand, and seeing new classes be created. All the new technology being brought into the program is so great! We didn't have this type of stuff when I was in school, so I think it's pretty cool,” Mr.Herring said.
Ethan Cienega has been in the STEM program for four years gaining the knowledge for engineering work experience. By the end of the year he wants to be able to draft, problem solve, and communicate professionally.
In the practicum classes students are given a chance to intern at many jobs around Weatherford or in areas near. For example, the Law Practicum students intern as security at elementary schools teaching them the importance of campus safety and also helping them to improve their communication skills with peers and adults. This is a great opportunity for a student of any career choice to do, not only does it allow them to learn safety protocol but it also develops leadership skills. Two interns from the Law Practicum are placed at the Weatherford Police Department where they work with records, dispatch and handle evidence.
Overall practicums offer students many different opportunities for their career choice, leading them to succeed in life after high school, they gain leadership skills as well as real world experience.

Oct. 5th - BASS TEAM RESULTS
On October 5th, the WHS Team competed in the THSBA West Division Bass Tournament on Possum Kingdom Lake. The field consisted of 208 teams from around the western portion of the state. From 7:00am until 3:00pm, teams searched the 17,000 acre reservoir in order to put fish on the scales.
The Roos were represented by 8 teams, with results as follows:
Hayden Johnson and Ethan Cienega led the Roos for the second consecutive tournament, weighing in 3 fish for 6.00 pounds.
Ethan Lancaster posted posted a single large fish weighing 3.81 pounds.
Bradley Slovak and Mathew McDougall kept their weigh-in streak alive weighing in one for 2.88 pounds.
Zach Norsworthy and Ethan Scott found the scales, this tournament, weighing in at 1.62 pounds.
The sophomore team of Anthony Gomez and Brandon Vasquez, as well as senior angler Cade Smith, put two fish on the scales, keeping both groups' weigh-in streaks intact.
Fishing their first tournaments were anglers Jax Forrest, Dylan Medlock, and Hunter Cockrell. Even though the teams did not weigh in fish, each angler made excellent progress towards tournament success. Congratulations to all!

Fall Tennis Comes To An End by Katie Markwardt
WHS ended their season in a devastating loss, dropping close behind Haltom. The Roos took on the Haltom Buffalos in the final district match of the season. Overall score came down to 8-11.
With the Roos being down drastically in doubles 3-4, the urge to end the fall season on a high note made the Roos look to demolishing in singles. Unfortunately the Roos came up short.
“I won my singles match 6-2,6-3” sophomore Shelbi Ruthesell said.
Ruthesell played this girl from Haltom last spring at our district tournament.
“We lost as a team, but playing in the dark was so hard and difficult to see,” Sandi Brown said. Haltom only had two courts that had lights and so the remaining players were stuck playing in the dark.
“Overall finishing the season and winning one since 2016 was pretty cool getting to be a part of that,” Brown said. (The Roos beat LD Bell High School winning their first district win since 2016.)
“Although we didn’t make it to playoffs, we really worked together as a team," Ruthesell said.
“I mean we had three different coaches in the four years that I was a part of the tennis team. Each year was dramatically different, but I think this year really stuck out to me because of how close the Varsity team got to each other," Brown said. "Playing all these years made me happy and getting to grow closer with my team is what made a significant impact on my high school tennis years.”
With the fall season completed and ending the overall season 8-7, the Roos did do better than in previous years.
“Starting on August 1st to where the players are today makes me happy and excited to see what the continued years have in store for us,” Coach Quy said.
With the spring season rapidly approaching, the Roos look to prepare by attending tournaments all over Texas. Ending the season in District tied for 5th place with LD Bell, the Roos look back on what a better season it was.
Good job on your achievements and good luck in the spring season!
