This week the 2019 state accountability scores were officially released. Pass Christian Middle School grew from 400 points to 417 points! This still makes us a B rated school, but we are growing and making progress. In order for us to be an A rated school, we must grow AT LEAST 25 more points. However, I want us to shoot for a 35 point growth. I know we can do it. We have to believe in the capabilities of our students and ourselves to be able to push and stretch them so they achieve at high levels. Our students are A level students.

This homecoming week will be an exciting time for our students! For our sixth graders it will be their first experience as a middle schooler during this time. For our eighth graders it will be their last homecoming experience as a middle schooler. We want this to be a fun and exciting week for all. Please remember a couple things, all dress code rules still apply unless otherwise stated and instruction should continue as normal.

Homecoming maids have been elected! I want to give a big shout out to Ms. Rishel and Mrs. Stephens for stepping out of their comfort zone and giving electronic voting a try! It was a huge success and went very smoothly. On top of that, results were instantaneous and precise! Way to go!!

The PCMS PTO has been working hard behind the scenes to bring you these items for their fall fundraiser! Order forms were sent home with students last week. They are due back by October 2nd. Also, I encourage you to get your pirate gear! Please send all monies and order forms to the office daily. (Remember you should not keep money in your room overnight.)

The Pass Christian School District is now taking applications for the Dr. Philip Terrell Excellence in Education Grant. This grant was established in honor of Dr. Phillip Terrell who was a long-time educator and former superintendent of the Pass Christian School District. The district will award competitive educator grants up to $1,500 to five different teachers who propose innovative educational programs that enhance teaching and learning in grades PreK–12. Applications are due to me no later than September 30th.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that affords parents the right to have access to their children’s education records, the right to seek to have the records amended, and the right to have some control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the education records.

Every school employee that has access to student data (MSIS, PowerSchool, i-Ready, etc.) must complete FERPA 101 by September 30th. It is a 40-minute course that does have a quiz at the end. When you have completed the course, please turn your certificate of completion in to me. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring our student data is handled properly.
