PES Notes
Week of August 29th - September 2nd
First full week!
Hello PES family,
I hope you have had a wonderful week. I missed picture day, but I am glad to see many of you post yours on social media. We are blessed with a lot of outstanding students in Decatur County. They are our future lawyers, doctors, teachers, plumbers, electricians, and the list could go on and on. This is why this next section is so important.
Reading is the gateway to learning. We must work together to help our young learners improve in reading. As we move into this year, I want to encourage you to listen to your child read. I want to encourage you to read to your child. While I know that some will say that you are not a reading teacher, you are your child's first and most important teacher. It will become vital to them when they see that it is essential to you. Here is an article I came across an article that discusses the importance of reading in elementary schools and a few more things. Your involvement does make a difference.
If you look at reading from an extracurricular perspective, it could change your mind about it. If you want to become better at free throws, practice free throws. If you want to be better at cartwheels, you practice cartwheels. Suppose you want to be a better piano player, your practice piano. It is the same thing for reading. If you want your child to read better, practice reading with them. Here is what makes it better. It doesn't have to be a school book. Let them read a book about something they enjoy. If it is sports, find one on sports.
I know it sounds like I am over the top here, but I want each of our students to be able to read. As students become more confident readers, it helps build more confident learners. We look forward to continuing this trek with you and look forward to seeing our students grow.
If we can help in any way, please do not hesitate to call or email us at the school.

Smart School
SMART SCHOOL is in full force. We have a great group of educators who stay after and help students. This past week, I had the chance to work with some of our 2nd and 4th-grade students. They are working hard. Smart School is open until 6 each day. If you want more information about it, please contact Dr. Pearcy by emailing her @ amanda.pearcy@decaturschools.org.
PES Choir
The PES Choir will begin this Thursday from 3:30 - 4:00. Remember that the choir will meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday's of the month. If you need a form for choir, please call the office and we will send one home with your child.
