Ka Malu o Kaimana Hila
Under the Protection of Diamond Head
Waikīkī School Parent Bulletin - January 29, 2024
Great Job Mindful Robotics!
This past Saturday, Waikiki School fielded its first competitive VEX robotics team since the COVID pandemic. Under the direction of coach Cole Carpenter, our team of motivated students had to put into practice their mindful habits like creativity, problem solving, persistence and cooperation & caring in order to successfully compete with 34 other elementary and middle school teams.
The game, VEX IQ Full Volume, is played on a 6’ x 8’ rectangular field. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge as an alliance in 60 second long teamwork matches, working collaboratively to score points.
Teams also competed in a Robot Skills Challenge where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of Driving Skills Matches, which included both driver controlled and autonomous mode with limited human interaction.
Congratulations to Waikiki students Zy G, Mina P, Aiden D, Dylan W, Kaiyu L, and Kien N for representing our school with pride!
Congratulations Team Waikiki School at School Shoots Summit 2024!
During the weekend of January 13-15, Waikiki School was a proud participant in the 2nd annual SHOOTS Summit Hawaii, presented by Hawaii Creative Media in partnership with the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education, HIKI NŌ on PBS Hawaiʻi, and ʻŌlelo Community Television.
Students from public, charter, and private schools (grades 3-12) were invited to participate for two days of video and photography contests, as well as breakout sessions led by industry professionals. The summit culminated in a closing ceremony and awards presentation on the third day, hosted by the talented Dillon Ancheta from Hawaii News Now.
Congratulations to Team Waikiki School who earned 2nd place in the elementary school division. Team members include Oliver L, Iloha M, Janessa F, Lily Y, Isaiah W, and Stefania M. Special mahalo also goes out to Mr. Marvel and Ms. Wada. Their video is shown below.
