We had an amazing first day this year! Check out these photos of our students arriving on the morning of September 5, 2023.

Our Swim & Shop event, held on Monday, September 25th from 5-7 PM, was a great success with a great turn out! This family-friendly event included open swim, Book Fair browsing, and an amazing pop up spiritwear store from PTSA. Dinner and snack items were available for purchase, again thanks to the Newfane PTSA.

As a reminder, as of July 1st 2018, NYS law requires a health examination for all students entering K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grade. The physical must be dated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the school year in which they are required, meaning for this year a valid physicals must be dated 9/5/22 or after. Please make arrangements to have your child's Health Exam Form faxed or sent over to us if you have not.

Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Mahar are engaging their class in an Amplify unit that analyzes character traits. Students enjoy reading the stories and memoirs. They also enjoy sharing their experiences through writing about the traits that a good friend should possess. Since the adoption of Amplify CKLA, our teachers have noticed substantial improvements in the students’ abilities to form well-developed paragraphs!

Mrs. Traverse’s class read We Don’t Lose Our Class Goldfish by Ryan T. Higgins. Students enjoyed the silly story about facing their fears and being responsible.

Afterward, it was their turn with their very own class “pet”! They each made a fish tank with their own fish! They took them home and created a journal with their families of all the crazy adventures their fish experiences.

We ended our spirit week this Friday with some Newfane blue and white!

Last week in Mrs. Dockery’s classroom, students enjoyed the sunshine by taking a hike with their self made pine cone peanut butter seed feeder.

Our second graders enjoyed ending their Amplify unit on Tall Tales and Fairytales by dressing up and completing a stem challenge to rescue Rapunzel.

In math this week, Mrs. Brown’s class worked in pairs to create a 1 meter (100cm) long strip. They completed this task by taping together 10cm long rulers.

During Mystery Science, Mrs. Conlon’s class completed a Bridge Challenge as part of their Forces unit.

Mrs Reis’ 4th grade technology literacy classes learned to Think Before Posting online with a breakout box lesson. We even had a special class visitor! Dr. Krueger, our new superintendent, joined a group to solve the clues and unlock a box!

Our 4th graders also had fun taste-testing guavas to go along with a story they read in Amplify called “How to Eat a Guava.”

Fun fact about guavas: Guavas have 5 times more vitamin C than oranges. Boost your immune system with some guava!

This year, we are delighted to welcome three new teachers, Mrs. Mrozek (Reading), Miss Todd (2nd Grade), and Mrs. Pestinger (Music). We also welcomed a new instructional associate, Mrs. Cassick. Read below to learn more about them!

Buses will start arriving at school at approximately 8:30 AM. This is also the time when students will begin to enter the building. If your child will not be taking the bus home one day, please be sure to send a note into school stating who will pick the child up.

Our drivers will not allow students off the bus if they do not see an adult at home. In the event no adult is visible, students will be brought back to school and need to be picked up from our main office. Please plan accordingly to ensure there is always someone to get your child(ren) off the bus.

Questions regarding bus routes and times can be directed to the bus garage at 778-8333.

If you plan to drive your child to school, please use our parent loop located on the pool side of the building between 8:30 and 8:45 AM. We will unload 10 cars at a time beginning at 8:30. Please do NOT let your child(ren) exit the car until you are given the signal to do so. Students arriving after 8:45 should be dropped off at the front entrance.

If you are picking your child up from school during dismissal, please have your red pick up tag hanging from your rearview mirror. Pick up will take place from 3:12-3:22 daily. Please remain in your vehicle and follow the directions of our staff members to ensure student safety.

The Lockport YWCA offers a childcare program for children in grades K-5. If interested, contact the Y at 433-6714.

If you are picking your child up early for an appointment please be sure to send a handwritten note with your child’s first and last name that morning. When you arrive, park in the main lot and enter through the main doors. You will need to give your full name to be granted entry. Please limit individual dismissals after 2:45 PM as this is a very busy time for our main office.

Again this year, the Newfane Central School District is delighted to provide each student’s personal and classroom school supplies. All students, K-4 will still need a backpack to transport items between school and home. We also recommend each student have his or her own water bottle and a change of clothes that can be kept in his/her cubby. All other supplies will be distributed in homerooms on the first day of school, Tuesday September 7th. We thank our dedicated Board of Education for continuing to support this initiative and our families in this way!
