Retirement!
Just shy of 30 years of service (and longer if you count the number of years she worked as a guest teacher!), Patty Thoma, has decided it is time to retire. Patty has been a pillar in this district (and RJ1 before it) and has impacted a generation’s worth of students. Not only did Patty teach ELA for our district, she also coached basketball, advised card club, and was a lead teacher for the 6 - 8 team. A huge thanks to Patty for her years of service, and much appreciation for the time, care, preparation, and impact she has made throughout her career here!
The district has posted this position and will notify families of the new teacher in one of the upcoming newsletters.
Discussion & Action
Discussed
- June professional learning for team members (Professional Learning Communities, Maximizing Collaboration, Essential Standards and content mapping, Response to Intervention, Math and Social Studies, Ross Greene training)
- Seclusion and Restraint Report - Ms. Tomich discussed this report that is due to DPI later this year
- Liability Insurance Renewal - Ms. Howe discussed our renewal
- WEA Insurance Update - Ms. Howe shared an update about WEA Trust insurance, how this impacts us, and next steps. This will be discussed at a future board meeting when more information is available and an alternative to WEA Trust is available.
- Current construction and Long Range Plan - Dr. Villalobos shared that the RMS gym, bathrooms, locker rooms, and hallway project had already started and gave the Board a tour at the end of the meeting. She shared that she and Mr. Billmyer reviewed feedback from the parent survey to update the long range plan. The two prioritized bathroom remodels at both buildings and playground work at RMS. This will be done in phases, with some immediate action being taken as possible. A few before and after photos are below.
- Continuous Improvement Action Plan - Dr. Villalobos provided an End of Year Report on the district's progress on the CIAP. Overall, the district made improvements; Dr. Villalobos explained the rationale for some of these as well as made some predictions about future performance ratings. The report is attached below.
