April 2023
🐝 Principal's Message
Greetings Tuscarora Family!
Happy Spring! We hope you and your family had a restful and relaxing Spring Break.
April is the Month of the Military Child. We recognize that the service and sacrifices of our military men and women extend far beyond these individuals. Let's please take this time to honor and celebrate the sacrifices our military children and their families make to serve our country. For more information about the Month of the Military Child, please visit https://www.militarychild.org/MOMC_Toolkit.
Also, during the month of April, we celebrate and honor Arab American Heritage month. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Arab Americans in our community for your many contributions to Tuscarora and beyond. Let's please take a moment to learn about the many contributions of Arab Americans in our community and in our society. Please click here for more information about Arab American Heritage Month.
A few highlights from this month's newsletter include:
- U-Nite: Kudos to the many students, staff, and families who came out and celebrated the Tuscarora Annual U-Nite Multicultural Showcase on March 21st. A special thanks to all the performers, presenters, and 'behind the scenes' team members who had a hand in making this event a truly memorable event. The celebration of our school community's diversity and talent is truly an inspiration.
- SLED: SLED is a great opportunity for students to receive extra academic support after school. As we begin the 4th quarter, please take advantage of SLED to start the 4th quarter strong and complete any Credit Recovery for previous quarters.
This month's newsletter is filled with many celebrations, honors, and information. Please read on and stay connected with the Tuscarora Community. Please contact me or my staff to let us know how we can support you.
Thank you!
Pamela Croft

- What strategies worked well last quarter that you should continue into 4th quarter?
- What strategies did not work well and why?
- What changes might you try to increase your success in 4th quarter?
- Who are some people, at school and at home, who can support your success?

🐝 News-worthy Reads from the Library
The librarians and reading specialists co-host the student book club, Project Lit. Our club meets before and after school. We are currently reading Why We Fly by Kimberly Jones & Gilly Segal. We have a great time discussing books and making new friends. Please encourage any interested students to join us in the library.
In April, the library also celebrates Arab American Heritage Month, National Poetry Month, as well as Earth Day. Our students create displays, select literature, and develop games to highlight these special events. We encourage students to stop by, learn more about the displays, and join us in the celebration and learning.

CONGRATULATIONS, EYASU NEALE, Environmental Excellence Award Winner!
Congratulations to Eyasu Neale!
Yasu has been selected by the Loudoun County Environmental Commission as the Environmental Excellence Award winner in the Student category.
The Environmental Excellence Awards is a program implemented by the Commission as directed in its bylaws from the Board of Supervisors. The Award is intended to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations for their leadership on environmental issues. Judges from the Commission evaluated nominees based on criteria of environmental impact, innovation, transferability, and relation to the theme, which for this year was litter prevention.
Nominated by Ms. Treanor at Tuscarora, Yasu's project of educating the public about reducing waste from Fast Fashion by holding a Thrifted Fashion Show scored the highest among nominees in your category.
Thank you, Yasu, for your efforts to protect the environment! Work like yours has a direct impact on the environment as well as providing a great example to encourage others to take action.
A news release announcing award winners will be made at the Board’s Business Meeting on Tuesday, April 18.
