Welcome Back, Panther Families

Happy 2019! I hope you had a restful winter break and are all ready for 2019. With one week into the second semester, we are fully into the swing of the things. I mentioned in my final Panther Prowl of 2018 that we expected our intercom system, classroom phones, and bells would be fully operational. I am happy to report that we did return to a functioning system! I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that with a new semester, comes a fresh start for our students. Grades do not carry over from last semester, so now would be a great time to get your student motivated for the home stretch to June 5, the last day of school!

Panther Academic Saturday School (PASS)

PASS will resume on Saturday, January 26th. The schedule will be made available in the next edition of the Panther Prowl.

California School Dashboard

In December, the State of California released its new school dashboard that provides information on schools across the state in regards to our accountability system. There is a wealth information on all public schools. Please spend some time on https://www.caschooldashboard.org to learn more about Corona High School's progress, including student performance. Should you have any questions about our school, feel free to email me directly.

8th Grade Day/Night

Our annual 8th Grade Day/Night will be held on Monday, January 28th. During the day, 8th grade students from Raney, Auburndale, CFIS, and Chavez Academy will be visiting our campus to learn about our academic offerings (including all pathways), activities, and athletics programs. That same evening, parents are invited to our Performing Arts Center beginning at 6:00 pm to hear a similar message from our staff members. No appointment necessary, just show up ready to learn!

Online Health

Attention parents of students enrolled in Online Health: There will be a mandatory meeting held on Wednesday, January 23rd for Online Health Orientation. There will be two opportunities to attend this meeting: 8:00 am or 2:50 pm in Room F-7. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Bogner (kbogner@cnusd.k12.ca.us) or have your child see her in B-13.

Corona STEM Academy

Workforce Strike Team

On Wednesday January 16th, we hosted the second Work Force Strike team meeting aimed at helping bridge Career Technical Education at the high school level with industry work experience. The meeting included member from different manufactures in and around the City of Corona, as well as representatives from local community colleges, Norco High School, the City of Corona, and our school district. Part of the meeting included a tour of our STEM/CTE facilities where our guests had the opportunity to see the progress in our new welding shop and new Aviation classroom fully loaded with flight simulators. This team will open up great opportunities for students not only at Corona or Norco High Schools, but potentially throughout the district as well.

Performing Arts

Band

Band held their annual winter concert to close out the first semester, featuring the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Color Guard. The Jazz Ensemble also entertained the staff and students with some Christmas favorites last Friday morning by the clock tower. The Red Coat Regiment banquet was held last Friday night in the Star Room. Starting in January, the Pep Band will be playing for Boys Basketball home games. The Color Guard will also be starting their first competitive Winter Guard Season in recent years. It is a very exciting opportunity for our students. Go Redcoats!

Theatre Arts

2018-19 Season:

Peter and the Starcatcher performances are on February 7, 8, & 9 at 7:00 pm
The Little Mermaid performances are on March 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, & 23 at 7:00 pm and on March 16 & 23 at 2:00 pm

Madrigals

The Madrigals had a busy semester performing at various community events including at the district office. They were able to visit 5 of our feeder schools earlier this month to promote the amazing voices we have here at Corona High School. When we return from break we have choir camp the very first two weeks back! We hope to have a big turn out after all our visits. Hooray for future Panthers!

Norco College

On January 18th, we had several of our seniors take a trip to Norco College to learn more about their course offerings and how this can be a very valuable option for students to continue their educational beyond Corona High School. In recent years, the partnership between our school and NC has opened up many opportunities for our graduates.

ASB/Activities

We were so fortunate to host Mike Smith (http://www.mikesmithlive.com/#intro) on January 18th during our assembly. He spoke to our entire student body about his own personal growth and his journey that led him to give back to his community and to people across the world in so many ways. His message to students is about being true leaders and following their passion to help others. Feedback from our own students was absolutely amazing and many had the opportunity to meet him and have personal conversations with him.

Athletics

Congratulations to our Girls Cross Country and Boys Water Polo teams for having the highest team GPAs for their respective sports in the entire Riverside County! The girls had a GPA of 4.5 and the boys 3.96. They will receive recognition at a district board meeting on January 22, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the CNUSD Board Room.

The deadline to submit your FAFSA is March 2nd; take advantage of our workshop if you have any questions or need help completing the application
Local Scholarship for seniors: deadline is February 7th by 12:30 pm in the Career Center (room J-1). Have your student stop by and see Ms. Kelly Smith should they have any questions.
8th Grade Parent Night for incoming Freshmen is January 28th at 6:00 pm in our PAC. Do not miss this opportunity to learn more about the amazing programs we offer for our students.
