Happenings at Decatur Central High School
January 23, 2023 Edition
Greetings Decatur Central Families,
We have had a great week last week...and we look forward to a great week this week as it is Snowcoming Week! We will have a daily spirit competition which really creates a fun atmosphere! It was wonderful to celebrate one of our wrestlers, Karla Marmalejo, who qualified for the state tournament. It was the first time since Covid that we were able to gather for a Parade of Champions and show true Hawk Spirit!
As well, it is wonderful to see our students help our community. This past week students in Choice and our social action class served 250 students in our district from our food pantry. It is always encouraging to see young people take seriously the idea that together we can make our society better!
Finally, it is that time of year where we need to be mindful of the weather. Below we will outline expectations in the event that we would have an e-learning day. If an e-learning day is declared, students will be expected to attend classes on an abbreviated schedule. All students will need to log into each Canvas course in order to receive directions on how to attend, what to work on, and how to complete and turn in assignments for the day.
As always...we are committed to being better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today because we are Hawks, it's what we do!

New Tech’s School Culture at Its Best
Returning to school in 2023, our students have been showing school culture by displaying our cultural norms of trust, respect, and responsibility. New Tech students met in the gym for a fun-filled New Tech Family Friday this week. During this time, we participated in re-establishing our culture expectations by looking at our culture contract and completing a Break Out Room over these expectations. Students and teachers cheered their CCRs on while participating in this exciting activity.
Furthermore, New Tech has participated in showing our fellow New Tech students support while going off to a State Championship and having fun at lunch playing UNO with one another. We have enjoyed laughing, communicating, and supporting each other while also having FUN! What better way to learn in New Tech!
