It’s flu season and the best way to protect yourself and your children is to receive the flu vaccine. Influenza is a virus that infects your nose, throat, and lungs. It is spread from droplets that are released when people talk, sneeze, or cough. The effects of influenza can range from mild to severe. The flu can be dangerous and result in hospitalization or even death. Signs and symptoms of influenza consist of fever, runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, body aches, headache, and chills. Children will sometimes have symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. If your child gets the flu it is very important that they do not attend school until they are fever free for 24 hours. Other ways to prevent your children from getting the flu is to encourage frequent handwashing, avoid touching mouth/nose/eyes, not visiting sick friends and family, and encouraging healthy habits such as a healthy diet and regular exercise. We have successfully implemented student partner work. Students have been working in both the facilitator and elaborator roles. Please ask your child to give you some examples of the learning targets they have been working on with their partners. On October 27th, teachers learned how to come up with success criteria for learning targets and monitoring student progress to take action. Success criteria are the explanation and details of a given learning target. Teachers are preparing students to take the ownership of learning targets and success criteria.
