Walker Career Center's Work & Learn Program Newsletter-02.21
What's In a Name?
Welcome to "Connections"--a shorter way to say "Walker Career Center's Work & Learn Program Newsletter!" Connections is what the Work & Learn program is all about! Students are making connections between what they are learning in their classes and the real world. They're connecting with professionals who provide new insights and opportunities. Walker Career Center's community partners are also making valuable connections with the future workforce, helping train and mentor students who often become their loyal employees. Our goal is to continue making new connections in the community.
Upcoming Career Fair!
Summer break is only 4 months away! If your company will have any job or internship opportunities for students for Summer 2021, we'd love to include you in our upcoming virtual Career Connect Fair. Please email info to: acriswel@warren.k12.in.us. More details to come soon.
New Community Partner Hires Two Students
A Greenfield company recently hired two of WCC's welding seniors. Congrats to Tyler Dingman and Colton Kiser on your new positions at Service Engineering Inc! Thanks for becoming our newest partner, SEI!
Student Spotlight
Brandon Harper is a senior Finance Academy student. He has a work-based learning position at TCU. He said, "More students need to know about work based learning. It's a really good experience. I've learned new skills, such as how to be professional, actively listen, and handle responsibilities."
We Want You!
We are always looking for new community partners! Did you know? We have more than 20 career programs at Walker Career Center, in fields such as Architecture & Construction, Automotive, Broadcasting, Culinary & Hospitality, Education, Electronics & Computer Technology, Engineering, Finance, Health, Photography, and Welding. Local businesses that offer services in any of these trades are a valuable resource to our students' training. Our partners offer in-class training, donations of materials for our programs, and/or hands-on learning experiences for our students. If you or a community member you know would like to become one of our partners, let's connect!
