Interim Superintendent (families)
School Board Taps Veteran Educator Dr. Sandy Husk

Dear PPS families,
We’re excited to announce that, tonight, the School Board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Sandy Husk as our interim superintendent. Dr. Husk has a deep background in education, including 18 years as a public school superintendent, half of it running Oregon’s second largest district. She has a track record of promoting and supporting student achievement and equity, as well as advancing proven instructional strategies and creating a culture of teamwork among all school employees.
She will start February 12, providing a productive transition before Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero wraps up his tenure on February 16.
Dr. Husk served as the superintendent of the Salem-Keizer School District and for public school districts in north Denver and Clarksville-Montgomery County, Tennessee. After her Salem superintendency, Dr. Husk served as the chief executive officer for the AVID Center in San Diego, a nonprofit that provides professional support to schools moving to a more equitable, student-centered approach and provides training to educators to prepare students for college, careers and life.
Dr. Husk began her career in education as an elementary school teacher and counselor, became principal of an elementary school and then alternative middle school, and also has served as a district supervisor of staff development and executive director of teaching and learning. (You can read Dr. Husk’s bio and our press release below.)
We look forward to working with Dr. Husk as she starts her tenure next month, and at the same time, we will also begin our work to select a permanent superintendent to guide the district into the future. The Board is committed to recruiting and hiring a highly qualified educational leader to continue our positive, student-centered work. We will be posting regular updates about our progress here.
The Board is confident Dr. Husk will provide steady leadership and advance our collective work through this transitional period. Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we work together to provide the best possible education for your children. We look forward to introducing you to Dr. Husk next month.
