Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
What a great peek at spring weather this week! We squeezed in our February fire drill and didn’t even have to bundle up in heavy coats!
Around the building, we’ve started to press the accelerator as we move into an important instructional time of the year! We’re proud of the hard work many of our kids are showing.
Additionally, we continue to see students stepping up and making positive character choices - even when that’s not the easy or popular thing to do! To celebrate these students, we kicked off our Ten To Win challenge. Students can receive a positive referral note from a teacher for exemplifying being #BetterEveryDay. These are turned in at the office, and students receive a small reward or candy (courtesy of our PTO!). Each student then draws a random number 1-100 and places their referral note on that spot on the chart in the hallway. When 10 students make a row with their numbers, everyone in that row wins pizza or ice cream! This is just one of the ways we hope to encourage positive choices and interactions around JAJHS!
Please take a few minutes to read through the information below about events and activities around JAJHS!
Sincerely,
Mr. Malany
Principal

PTO Candy Bar Fundraiser!
Our wonderful PTO has extended the deadline to order candy bars for our fundraiser! Any time this weekend you can Venmo your order to @JonathanAlder-JuniorHighSchool. The candy bars are $1 each (you will receive an assortment), so if you plan to sell 60 candy bars, Venmo $60. If you don't use Venmo, please send a check made out to JAJH PTO to school on Monday, February 12th, with your student. If every student sells 15 candy bars, we together will raise over $2500!
Per the PTO, the money raised will go towards supporting and rewarding our amazing, hard-working JAJHS students & staff, so let's eat and sell lots of chocolate!
Winter Wonderland Dance
Our Winter Wonderland Dance is tomorrow, Saturday, February 10th, from 7-9 PM.
The cost of admission is $5 per person (Jonathan Alder JH students only, please). Drinks, snacks, and a slice of pizza will be provided with the admission cost, but additional concession snacks will also be available for a small charge. If you are able to donate your time or resources, here is a link for your review!
Reminders:
When dropping off for the dance on Saturday evening, please enter at the driveway closest to the football field and follow the morning drop-off pattern.
The dance will end promptly at 9:00 PM. Following the dance, please be patient as all of our student head to their cars. We appreciate everyone’s effort in making sure it is a safe evening for all of our students.
JAJHS Yearbook Group Photos
Next Wednesday, February 14th, is group photo day for the JAJHS yearbook. Please plan accordingly!
Student Council Visit to Edgewater Retirement Center
The Edgewater Retirement Center has invited 7th grade student council members to make crafts and pass out candy bags and dream catchers with their residents on Thursday, February 15th. Students who have turned in permission slips should stay after school to assemble our bags and then take a bus to Edgewater. Parents are to pick up their students at 4:15 PM from Edgewater.
Track Season Information
We held an informational track meeting at the JAJHS this week. Coach Lieberth handed out a form to all interested students on the upcoming season, so if your child is interested in participating, please review it with them. We are working on hiring additional coaching staff and hope to have decisions finalized by next week with practices likely to begin in March. Please reach out to Coach Lieberth if you have any questions.
JAJHS Math Club
The 7th and 8th grade Math Club is starting in a couple of weeks. Meetings will be held once a week during lunch. Students should look for updates on the announcements. It is open to any student interested in competing in the Madison County Math Contest that will be held on April 25th.
High School Scheduling
Over the next month, 8th grade students will begin the process of high school scheduling. This process will involve meeting the administration and school counselors from the high school and hearing about course structure and program offerings. Our students will visit both the high school and Tolles and learn about their future opportunities. We will share additional details as we have information available.
JAJHS 8th Grade Community Career Expo
We are holding a special event the morning of Wednesday, March 20th, for our 8th graders. While half of our students visit Tolles Technical Center to learn about options available at Tolles, the other half of our 8th graders will be meeting with local members of our community to learn about various careers. The two groups will then switch!
We need YOUR help to make this event possible! If you are available to speak at this event on March 20th, or want more information, please fill out the following survey so that we can get in touch with you with more details. The approximate hours we would need your help would be from 8:15 AM - 11:15 AM. We anticipate speakers will be at individual tables with small groups of students rotating through each station. Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor. The required form must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
