LIDO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S NEWSLETTER FOR PARENTS
Message from Principal Hernandez
Dear Lido Family,
Warm greetings to all our Lido families. We hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well. As we step into the autumn season, we want to share some important updates and upcoming events for the months of October and November.
In October and November we will have our Fall Picture Day, Color Run, Red Ribbon Week, Trunk or Treat, Elementary Character Day, Book Fair, Friendsgiving, and World Kindness Day.
We greatly appreciate the ongoing support and involvement of our parents in various school activities. If you have some spare time and would like to contribute your skills and enthusiasm, we have several volunteer opportunities available. Please contact our PTA if you would like to volunteer. Your contribution is invaluable.
Our 5th Grade Parent Committee is participating in a fundraiser where there is nothing to buy or sell. All we need is your support and your gently worn, used, or new sneakers. It may be hard to believe, however, an estimated 600 million pairs of shoes go into America’s landfills every year. 100% of these shoes can be recycled and a majority can be reused. The sneakers that we will collect will help to raise money to support our 5th grade AND help our environment by keeping sneakers out of the landfills. Talk about a win-win! Please check your closets and gather as many pairs of sneakers as possible that you no longer want, you’ve outgrown or are out of style. You can also ask your neighbors, friends, co-workers to help our cause too! Every pair counts! You can drop your donation in the Lido main lobby. For further information, please see the flier below.
We will continue to keep you updated on any further announcements, events, or changes through our school website, email, and social media. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, Mr. Webel, or myself.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education journey. Together, we can make this school year a remarkable and enriching experience for every student. We look forward to all the wonderful moments that lie ahead in October and November.
Warm regards,
Dr. Ivelisse Hernandez

Creepy Carrots
Jasper Rabbit loves carrots—especially Crackenhopper Field carrots. He eats them on the way to school. He eats them going to Little League. He eats them walking home. Until the day the carrots start following him...or are they?

Alma and How She Got Her Name
If you ask her, Alma Sofia Esperanza José Pura Candela has way too many names: six! How did such a small person wind up with such a large name? Alma turns to Daddy for an answer and learns of Sofia, the grandmother who loved books and flowers; Esperanza, the great-grandmother who longed to travel; José, the grandfather who was an artist; and other namesakes, too. As she hears the story of her name, Alma starts to think it might be a perfect fit after all—and realizes that she will one day have her own story to tell. In her 2019 Caldecott Honor Book, Juana Martinez-Neal opens a treasure box of discovery for children who may be curious about their own origin stories or names.

Peyton Picks the Perfect Pie
Thanksgiving is our most universal holiday, beloved by adults and children. But Thanksgiving can also be a challenge for young eaters who struggle with new tastes and new experiences. Peyton is the hero of this food lover's tale and she is determined to confront her fear of new foods by finding a Thanksgiving pie she truly likes, even if it's flaky, lumpy, or chunky.

Attendance:
While daily attendance is vital for students’ success, students who are ill should remain home and recuperate so they can perform their best at school. Students who have fever symptoms must not come to school for 24 hours since the onset of the fever. State law requires an explanation for all absences. Please send an absence note on the day your child returns to school, no matter how brief the absence. If your child is going to be absent, or if your contact information changes, please notify the Health Office at 897-2148 (Pre-K-5).
Late:
Please be advised that with the new schedule, students in Pre-Kindergarten – Fifth grade will be marked late if they arrive past 8:50 am. Instruction begins promptly at 8:45am for Pre-K – 5 students.
Drop Off Lane:
When you come to the drop off lane, be sure to let your child/children exit your car on the curb side (right side). You cannot park and leave your car in the drop off lane. Please do not double park or create two drop lanes, near the drop off lane for the safety of students and staff. If you would like to walk your child/children to school please park your car in the parking lot.
Dismissal:
As a friendly reminder, please be sure to stand in the walker zone during dismissal. Students will not be allowed to walk to the parking lot area without an adult. We also ask that students are not taken off their line without notifying their teacher first for the safety of all students.
Visiting Lido:
Whether you are visiting our school, heading to the nurses office, or need to do an early pick-up, please be sure to go to our security in our main entrances and bring photo ID.
