Student Illness
- When calling in a sick child, please remember to include what symptoms your child is experiencing. This is important for keeping records of illnesses.
- If your child is sent home from school with any symptoms, they may not return to school until the symptoms subside for a full 24hrs.
- If your child goes to the doctor, the office will need a letter to dismiss your child's absence from school.
- If your child is showing any flu-like symptoms please keep them home.
- Please do not send your child to school if they need medication for flu-like symptoms.
Daily Schedule Changes
If you have any changes to your child's pickup or bus schedule, please call the office by 2pm on full days and 11:15 am on half days even if you have emailed your child's teacher. With the change of the 2021 school hours, the teachers do not always have time to check emails during school the day. The same process should be used with the transportation office as well as the B.A.S.E. director.

Early Release Every Wednesday
This is a district-wide initiative to allow our professional learning communities to review student achievement data and collaborate as grade level teams and/or content area groups to improve the instruction that we provide to all of our students throughout the school year. Paw Paw Public Schools is committed to becoming a model professional learning community and our success will be measured by the success that our students experience as a result of the time that has been allocated for our teachers on these early release days.

Testimonial Tuesday
Exciting news!! Every Tuesday, we are featuring our weekly "Testimonial Tuesday". We'd like to give recognition from our students for any positive story or comment from your child about our school or staff (teachers, support staff, custodian, lunch aides, administration, etc.)
If your child shares a story about a staff member who has brightened their day please share it with aimee.johnson@ppps.org. We will take your student's photo with recognized staff and share your testimony with our community.
Feeding Kids Ministry
Paw Paw Public Schools participates in the Feeding Kids Ministry to offer a supply of nutritious meals and snacks for children over the weekend, free of charge, if you are struggling to meet your family's food needs and would benefit from receiving additional food. The staff will discreetly distribute weekend bags on the last school day before the weekend. Any child enrolled at the Paw Paw Early Elementary is able to receive these weekly bags of food. The program will begin on September 15th 2022. If your family is enrolled, your child/children will receive a bag of food each week until the end of the school year or until you no longer wish to participate.

SuperBEES
At Paw Paw Early Elementary, we have a vision to provide positivity and acknowledgement, per say, credit where credit is do! Therefore, we created an approach to recognize our students as SuperBEES! Our SuperBEE Program is a bi-weekly incentive program designed as a positive approach to managing behaviors and reinforcing social emotional learning with our P.R.I.D.E matrix (Personal Responsibility, Respect, I Am A Learner, Demonstrate Safe Behavior and Excellence In Attitude). This also gives our staff and students an opportunity to have discussions in the classroom and encourage a positive learning environment through focused behaviors. We are extremely excited and thankful for this opportunity to encourage our students to
BEE great students!
Grief Group
Starting soon...Lory's Place will be offering a monthly grief group for students experiencing the loss of a parent, grandparent or significant person.

What's Happening in Wellness
Wellness (PE)
This month we will be focusing on Building a Foundation. We will be learning about personal space and general space, body management, and locomotor skills. Our goal in PE this year is to focus on the
value of physical activity for health and enjoyment, while completing the PE standards for each grade level.
Please remember to make sure your child wears tennis shoes on PE days!
Health
If your child has Wellness (PE) on Monday, he/she will also have Health class on Friday until November 4th. I use the Michigan Model Health curriculum to teach Health. These are the topics we will be covering in Health:
*social and emotional health
*nutrition and physical activity
*safety
*medicine safety
*personal health and wellness
From Nurse Cathy...
This fall Covid and Flu testing will be combined in one kit. Currently the at home kits provided by the state will just be the Covid rapid tests
If you would like to order test kits for your home, please follow the directions in the links.
All households in the state of Michigan can order their free COVID-19 tests through AccessCovidTests.org. Each household will receive one kit with five tests, typically within a week of ordering. Individuals without internet access can contact 211 for assistance ordering tests.
MDHHS continues to partner with libraries across the state to provide free at-home COVID-19 tests to Michiganders. Click here for a list of participating libraries.
Private health insurers are required to cover up to eight at-home COVID-19 tests per month for each person covered by a health plan.
