The luncheon is scheduled for March 17th at the Tri County Senior Center, 800 W. Thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding around inclement weather and the use of Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days, which is new this year. We will continue to get feedback on ways to improve AMI for next year, but appreciate your support in making the difference for our students' learning!

District nurses are super heroes in our schools and in the community! Recently they packed 384 cases of food totaling 10,000 meals for the hungry. The cases of food will be distributed to 13 Missouri counties, including Franklin County.

The Pacific High School DECA participated in the District 8 DECA Career Development Conference virtually this year. Students created visual and written presentations, then recorded their presentations to be judged remotely. Pacific had a great showing this year, even with a small group of members. Eight students participated and all 8 medaled in their events.

Pacific High School juniors have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend the American Legion Boys and Girls State of Missouri. The 2022 Boys and Girls State programs will occur simultaneously on Lindenwood University’s campus June 11 to 18. The programs will maintain independent schedules and curriculum but plan to share common resources. Both, Missouri Boys State and Missouri Girls State will also be able to enhance their programming by leveraging nationally known speakers and guests.

Students at Pacific Intermediate participated in The Great Kindness Challenge. The challenge was based on the simple belief that kindness is strength. Additionally, it is also believed that as an action is repeated, a habit is formed. With the Great Kindness Challenge checklist in hand, students had the opportunity to repeat kind act, after kind act. In addition, the halls were filled with decorations of kindness from staff and students alike.

February was a busy month for eighth grade students preparing for their high school. This trimester, eighth grade students and their parents attended the Freshman Preview Night to learn about course offerings. Then, the Pacific High School counselors met with each eighth grade student to review their plans for their freshman year. Additionally, Pacific High School Student Ambassadors visited with students about life as a high school student.

Seventh grade students met with an FBI agent to learn about internet safety. Topics included cyberbullying, inappropriate pictures, and other safety issues. Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about not sharing personal information on social media or through gaming devices.

Students in Mrs. Alt's FACS class participated in a Classroom Cupcake Wars Competition. The lesson included students working as a team to plan, prepare, and present cupcakes for the competition.

Coleman kindergarten classes celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing up as if they were 100 years old. They participated in activities that gave the children an idea of significance of the number. They made predictions about how many licks it would take to get to the center of a tootsie-roll pop and they had to draw what their sucker looked like before, after 50 licks, and after 100 licks. Included in the activity was practicing writing their numbers to 100. Additionally, students counted out 100 pieces of cereal and practiced their fine motor skills by threading cereal onto a pipe cleaner to make a necklace. Finally, they wrote about what they would do with $100, as well as what they would do when they were 100 years old.

Students recognized for exhibiting respectful actions. The behaviors observed were speaking kindly to friends, solving problems in a positive way, and actively listening when someone else was speaking.

Mrs. Dewert’s high school class delivered handmade Valentine cards to Mrs. Snyder’s kindergarten class. Respectfulness and kindness was observed during the visit. The friendship created during the visit was so popular that the mentoring and partnership will continue throughout the year.

Zitzman Elementary has taken on the Great Kindness Challenge. This challenge is a positive, action-based kindness initiative to help create a school culture of kindness, compassion, and respect. The students were given a challenge to do random acts of kindness throughout their school day. Each time a teacher "catches" a student in the act of kindness, he or she will fill out a link (strip of paper). The school's goal is to create a chain-link of kindness that reaches across school building, from the end of the fourth grade hallway to the entrance of the SACC program. Because of this great challenge staff have observed many acts of kindness in the school. Examples of those acts include pushing in a chair, holding the door for a peer, to complimenting friends, and the use of good manners. Zitzman Chiefs are modeling kindness with the challenge.

English language learners (ELL) were all smiles when they participated in a hands-on Valentine's Day activity to boost their language skills. Mrs. Brooks, ELL teacher, boosted her students' understanding of the holiday tradition while incorporating verbal and written language activities into the fun.
