Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
Once again, we had a busy week here at Canby High School. May is full of fun activities and opportunities for students. It is important to concentrate on school work during this time as well. Thank you to those who were able to join us for conferences. Please check in with your students about their academics as we only have 4 weeks left of the trimester for freshman through juniors and only 3 weeks for seniors. It is important that students keep going strong until the end of the school year. Please reach out to your teachers or counselor if you have any questions.
Congratulations to our amazing band who took 2nd in the State competition last week. Check out their spring concert TONIGHT! Last week, the College and Career Center hosted a successful Decision Day event for seniors, and at yesterday’s CTE summit, student speakers passionately spoke about the importance of our many Career and Technical Education offerings here at CHS. Next week, we have district and state appearances for many of our sports teams as well as our choir concerts.
As the weather gets warmer, we have some important reminders about behavior at school. We are a closed campus, except for walking off campus during lunch only. Another important safety issue is around water guns. All gun look-alikes of any type are not allowed on our campus. We take student safety very seriously. Thank you for your continued partnership to make CHS an amazing place for our students to learn.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Graduation All Night Party
Please help us celebrate the Canby High School Class of 2023 by signing up to volunteer at the Senior "GAP" All NIght Party on Friday, June 9th. We need as many volunteers as possible to make this an amazing event for our graduates. Senior parents are more than welcome to sign up to help, but we also need parents who do not have seniors. Think of volunteering at this event as paying it forward. Volunteering gives the senior parents a chance to attend graduation, and visit with family and friends who might be visiting for graduation. Then when it's you students turn to graduate, other parents will do the same for you.
When signing up, please make sure that you add an email and a phone number. I will be sending out reminders as we get closer to the event. The location will not be disclosed until a couple of hours before the event, because we want to surprise the student, but know that it is within a half an hour drive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Amber Bedortha at canbyamber@yahoo.com.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
