What is the K12 Zone?
The K12 Zone is an immersive, personalized, interactive virtual campus for K12 students. It encourages engagement through virtual chat, video conferencing, and other tools; it also provides a space where students can safely and creatively explore, learn, and socialize with each other.
Your student can connect with their classmates and teachers in the Zone! Students can connect with others through video, chat function, and audio. Additionally, the K12 Zone offers many activities for students, such as chess games, tic-tac-toe, library access, scavenger hunts, access to Stride E-Sports, and much more.
Who can enter the K12 Zone?
Students in 2nd thru 5th grade have access to the K12 Zone. While having an adult to help monitor behavior at home while students are in the Zone is encouraged, it is not required. LSOA staff should be the only adults logged into the Zone. No non-LSOA employees should be logged into the Zone independent from their student(s).
When can students enter the K12 Zone?
To ensure students are able to enjoy the Zone and complete their school work, the Zone will be open at specific times for each grade level.
2nd Grade Zone
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
3rd Grade Zone
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
4th & 5th Grade Zone
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM
There will be two Moderators in the Zone during the hours it is open. The Moderators will be able to answer questions, and ensure all students are following the Acceptable Use Policy while in the Zone.
How are we keeping students safe while in the K12 Zone?
The safety of our students is of the utmost importance. We understand that you chose LSOA to ensure you and your student are empowered to take control of their education, as well as their security.
The K12 Zone is meant to be a fun, engaging way to hang out with other LSOA students. To ensure these goals stay at the forefront of everything we do, we've provided the following policies and processes to mitigate any safety concerns.
Acceptable Use Policy
All LSOA staff and families are expected to know, understand, and follow the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). This policy can be found in the Student Handbook attached below.
Zone Moderators
Two LSOA staff members will be monitoring the Zone during the hours it is open. These Zone Moderators will be available to answer questions, help troubleshoot technology issues in the Zone, and ensure students are interacting in a safe and respectful way.
Reporting Behavior
Students can report any instances of misbehavior in the Zone using the Report feature available in the Zone. This will alert the Zone Moderators, and campus admin, in order for LSOA staff to follow up and take the appropriate next steps.
If you have concerns about bullying, you may use the Bullying Reporting Form below!
Consequences for Violations of the AUP
If, after an investigation, a student is found to have violated the AUP, the Zone Moderator will follow the steps below.
- The student will be removed from the Zone anywhere from one day to one week.
- The LC will be notified of the consequence, as well as the circumstances under which this consequence was earned.
- After the period of removal, the student will be able to return to the Zone.
If a student is banned from the Zone more than three times, the student may lose access to the Zone for the 2023-2024 school year.
Lingering Questions?
For all lingering questions, please reach out to your teacher directly via email or over the phone. We are excited to see you in the Zone! Let's go Stars!!
