Please do not email one secretary individually, just in case someone is out for the day.
As for transportation changes and students who are going home early, please email or call the RGS Office. Teachers do not always see your email in time, or they could also be out that day! Please email rgs.support@nsd2.com and the office will be sure to get your student safely to where they need to be!
**Please also note, whenever possible please communicate any changes in transportation at least an hour before the end of the day.**
Thank you for your cooperation.
Attendance
We would like to communicate the importance of ensuring your child's regular attendance at school. Attending school is not just a requirement but a crucial aspect of their academic and personal development. Consistent attendance lays the foundation, ensuring your child receives the necessary instruction to thrive. Regular school attendance has far-reaching benefits beyond the classroom. It increases the chances of high school graduation, academic and career aspects, and instills a sense of discipline and commitment that will serve them well in life. Please help us to establish a positive routine this school year and make attendance a priority.
What if my child is absent from school?
In the event of any absence, the student’s parent/guardian is required to call the school office before 9:30 a.m. to explain the reason for the absence. If a call has not been made to the school by 9:30 a.m. on the day of a student’s absence, a school official will call the home to inquire why the student is not at school. If the parent/guardian cannot be contacted it may result in an unexcused absence. Absence calls should be made directly to the school office and any additional emails to staff members should only be done as a courtesy or to inquire about schoolwork. Please do not leave information regarding your child’s absence on the teacher’s voice mail or e-mail as we may not get the information in a timely manner. Our first concern when a child is absent is to verify their safety. For that reason, it is very important that the school office is informed of an absence or late arrival as soon as possible. Please make sure that the office has your correct contact information.
It's hard to believe that the warm colorful days of fall have already transitioned into the brisk cold of winter! As things begin to pick up speed for the holidays, all of our Spanish classes will be keeping pace with a lot of new language and cultural activities.
Fifth Graders have been very busy! Besides learning and practicing vocabulary words associated with November, they also took an in-depth look at the Latin American holiday, the Day of the Dead. During the coming weeks, we will be learning our December vocabulary words and also learning about Las Posadas.
Fourth Graders have completed several lessons about Día de los Muertos. During the month of December, students will take a brief look at the Mexican holiday of Las Posadas, make traditional Ojos de Díos, and also learn about the history of the Poinsettia and its connection to Mexico before we begin our unit on the parts of the body.
Third Graders have completed their unit on the Magical Mariposa, and are currently practicing and solidifying their knowledge of the related Spanish vocabulary words. In the next few weeks, we will also be taking a look at the Mexican holiday of Las Posadas before moving on to the Spanish Alphabet.
Second Graders are finishing their study of the season of fall and related weather terms in Spanish. When this is finished, we will be ready to discuss the holiday customs and traditions of Mexico and its Latin American neighbors.
First Graders have been introduced to the holiday of Day of the Dead, and have also done a unit on the Biblioburro, which was an extension of their lessons in their reading classes. Next, we will be looking into The Legend of the Poinsettia and the history of Las Posadas.
Kindergarteners have been introduced to the colors red and blue, and the circle shape in Spanish. They will continue to learn additional colors, while incorporating some Spanish vocabulary for the season.
All of my students have been working very hard to learn not only the meanings of the words, but also the pronunciation of the new language. I am very proud of their progress thus far, and I thank you for the opportunity to work with all of your children, and for all of the time and support that you are giving to them at home!
Wishing all of you a blessed and happy holiday season!
-Mrs. Zaremba
The cold weather is upon us; please make sure your children are appropriately dressed for outdoor recess. Warm winter attire includes a coat, hat, gloves, and scarf. Snow pants and boots are needed when the snow falls. Students must have snow pants and boots to play in the snow, otherwise, they are to remain on the blacktop. It is also helpful to label all winter gear; it is difficult when there are three pairs of black snow pants to determine which belongs to your child.
Snacks are an important break needed to rest and recharge for more classroom learning. Please make sure that your children comes to school with the appropriate number of nutritious snacks to get them through the day. A water bottle also helps to keep our friends hydrated and ready to learn.
As we are in the midst of cold and flu season; here are some reminders to help you and your family:
Eat right, drink plenty of water, exercise, and get plenty of sleep to help boost your immunity
Wash your hands frequently, perform the elbow cough, and disinfect at home and work
Treat your symptoms and stay home from school or work so you don’t spread to others
If your child is feverish, they need to be fever-free without fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours before returning to school
Keep smiling and stay healthy!
Happy Holidays!
-Mrs. Hunt
I want to thank everyone who supported our recent Scholastic Book Fair, especially our volunteers, Michelle Thielen and Peggy Sena; who gave us their time to come in and help. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you!
The Fair was a tremendous success, and we look forward to using our earnings to make the library an even more fun and engaging space at RGS.
I hope everyone has a happy, healthy holiday.
-Mrs. Walker
Just a reminder that the Giving Tree gifts are due Monday, December 11th. Thank you to all the families who participated this year! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

SmartSocial
As technology gifts may be high on our children's wish lists this season, we're thrilled to introduce our partnership with SmartSocial.com. This platform provides many resources to help safely navigate the digital world.
As the plethora of resources may seem overwhelming at a glance, we recommend starting small and perhaps delving into one of the following topics:
That said, NSD#2 is giving its parents/guardians free access to all of the SmartSocial tools. Just use this link to register: https://smartsocial.com/members?org=nippersinkrichmondburton
This free access is for our students' families only and valid until July 31, 2024. Please do not share the link with non-district families.
Let's make this holiday season not only joyful but also a time for learning and growing in the digital age!
