HOME FOR LITTLE WANDERERS BIG WISH CAMPAIGN
This holiday season help holiday wishes come true for thousands of children and families at the Home for Little Wanderer’s by participating in our Holiday Wish Drive. The COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly challenging for vulnerable children and families, increasing the need for your support this year. With your help, we can make more wishes than ever come true this holiday season! Due to the pandemic the Home is asking for Gift Card donations this year.
My name is Kylie Carter and I participate in the Home for Little Wanderers Big Wishes Campaign in memory of my late great-grandmother Francis Hackenson who spent several years in the orphanage as a youth in the 1930s while her mom battled Tuberculosis.
Please contact via email (kyhope11@icloud.com or shelleyg12@verizon.net) to arrange pickup/drop-off of gift card(s) or we accept Venmo and purchase the gift cards. I’m asking for all donations to be received by 12/16 so I can ensure delivery by 12/18. I appreciate your generosity to help make a difference at this orphanage.

FLU VACCINE REQUIREMENT
Per the MA Department of Public Health, influenza immunization will be required for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12, and colleges and universities. The new vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All MURSD students will be expected to have received a flu vaccine by December 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 influenza season, unless either a medical or religious exemption is provided. Also exempted are K-12 students who are homeschooled and higher education students who are completely off-campus and engaged in remote learning only. This new flu immunization requirement to enter school in January is in addition to existing vaccine requirements for all those attending child care, preschool, K-12, and colleges and universities in Massachusetts. Elementary and secondary students in districts and schools that are using a remote education model are not exempt.
Please forward documentation of your child’s flu vaccine to the school nurse prior to December 31, 2020. Please email Gfarquharson@mursd.org or send a copy in to school.
Please click here for more information on the flu vaccine requirement.

COVID-19 Quarantine
The following are the DPH guidelines for quarantine guidance for those who have been exposed to COVID-19:
- At least 14 days from the date of last exposure; or
- At least 10 days, provided all of the following are satisfied:
- You have not had, and do not have, any symptoms;
- You are tested on day 8 of your quarantine period or later using a molecular diagnostic test (e.g., polymerase chain reaction (PCR)) to detect the presence of the virus;
- You receive a negative test result; and
- You monitor yourself for symptoms for the full 14 days. If you develop symptoms you should contact your health care provider and be re-tested.
eCYBERMISSION Club
eCYBERMISSION is a free national web-based STEM competition open to all students in grades 6-9. Students will work remotely via Zoom in teams of 3-4 students from Miscoe to identify a problem in their community, solve it following science and engineering principles, and communicate their work online to judges comprised of researchers and engineers working for the Department of Defense (DoD). Teams can identify problems from a wide list of mission areas including: (1) Alternative Sources of Energy; (2) Environment; (3) Food, Health & Fitness; (4) Forces & Motion; (5) National Security & Safety; (6) Robotics; and (7) Technology. Students will collaborate virtually with their team to perform all of the tasks necessary to complete their Mission Folder, including either developing and conducting an experiment or designing and building a prototype. Each team works with an adult Team Advisor who is there to assist and coach them, but students also have access to an online network of expert DoD researchers and engineers from across the country who are excited to offer virtual help. eCYBERMISSION Club will run November through February, and meet once a week afterschool entirely via Zoom. Rina Manser (Miscoe Hill Sixth Grade Teacher) and Michael Manser (Mechanical Engineer at the Natick Army Labs) will serve as team advisers. This is our third year offering eCybermission Club at Miscoe. Last year two sixth grade Miscoe teams won First Place and Honorary Mention at the state level! Parents of interested students should contact: michael.j.manser.civ@mail.mil for more information."
