Important Dates and Updates

May 16th - Prairie Fork Field Trip

May 22nd - Fifth Grade Graduation

May 25th - Last Day of School - Dismissal at 12:50PM


- There will be no more homework this year. Please continue to encourage your child to read and practice math facts at home.

- Yearbooks have arrived! We will have a signing celebration soon. If your child ordered a yearbook and you do not want peers to sign it, please let me know. Thanks!

- Work habit checklists have been updated. Please be sure to check your child's work habits list each week to stay up to date on behavior successes and challenges.

Electrical Safety Presentation

Mr. Keith Mueller from Boone Electric came on Tuesday to present about electrical safety. It is always a fabulous presentation full of fun demonstrations. Be sure to ask your child what they learned.

Exploring Snap Circuits

After our presentation about electricity, the kids used snap circuits to explore circuits in new ways. They had a great time making horns honk, lights light, fans spin and more.

Economics Market

Mr. Villasana joined us to last week to lead an economics simulation. The students took on roles as buyers and sellers in a fish market. Throughout the simulation, the supply and demand changed. The students were able to experience and discuss how prices are impacted by a variety of economic variables.

Hurricane Study

We are currently immersing ourselves in a study of hurricanes. We spent this week reading about hurricanes, looking at a variety of maps, discussing elevations, and creating topographic maps. On Friday, we will have a meteorologist visiting us and explaining the science behind hurricanes.


This unit will cover our Land and Water science objectives, as well as many social studies objectives. Next week we will study more specifically Hurricane Katrina. There are many fabulous book options about this tragedy and I am looking forward to getting our book clubs up and going.

Mission Accomplished

Last week we completed our MAP testing. Thank you for your support and helping ensure your child was prepped and ready. The kids took the test seriously and showed great effort throughout all three testing sessions.
