Board Members Jeff Engen and Keith Christen took the Oath of Office at Wednesday night's Reorganizational and Regular School Board Meeting on January 4th, 2023.

Meet the new Education Commissioner for Minnesota: Willie Jett

Dear Educators, Partners, Friends,

I am honored to serve the Walz/Flanagan administration as the Commissioner of Education and look forward to partnering with you in the weeks and months ahead. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m an educator. I’ve taught, coached and led for over three decades in Minnesota schools. Having recently left the superintendency, I understand the many challenges facing education, and I respect and value the work you do in service to our students, families and staff.

Lasting change happens in community. We cannot do the necessary and important work ahead as individuals. Our efforts must be collective and aligned as we make the Governor’s Due North Education Plan a reality. Our Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) staff and I are committed to working alongside you to meet the goals set forth by Governor Walz.

You can expect to see us in your schools, campuses and offices so we can hear directly from you about what’s going well and what support you need. As an MDE team, we stand ready to serve your community, to challenge past practices and to grow together. You can also reach out to me at any time at w.jett@state.mn.us to share your thoughts.

This is an exciting time for education in our State. Working together, we will improve outcomes for students and our Minnesota communities because changing lives is what we do. We’re educators.
