JOB DESCRIPTION
HS Special Education Resource Room/Transition Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Special Education
UNION EXEMPT: No
REPORTS TO: Special Education Director and Building Principal
WORK DAYS: Full time, school year
CASELOAD: Assigned annually
SALARY: Certificated State salary schedule.
DESIRED BACKGROUND/SKILLS:
- Experience and ability to work with students with diverse handicapping conditions,
- Knowledge of teaching strategies and current laws/regulations regarding special education,
- Experience writing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) that meet legal criteria,
- Ability to utilize academic testing and educational assessments to plan and monitor instruction,
- Complete Manifestation Determinations, Functional Behavioral Analysis and develop and implement positive behavior plans,
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents,
- Function as a member of the assessment team,
- Effective communication skills,
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to plan and carry out appropriate individualized instruction to meet student needs,
- Consultation with classroom teachers for student success,
- Support the development of appropriate classroom accommodations for assigned students,
- Serve as IEP case manager for students on assigned Special Education caseload,
- Transition assessment, planning and implementation of educational activities,
- Collaboration with Career exploration activities and Transition instruction,
- Maintain compliance with Washington State and District policies, procedures and WACs,
- Maintain accurate student data for reporting student growth to parents, students and staff,
- Attend required meetings and trainings,
- Direct and supervise the work of assigned Para-educators,
- Child Study Team and Multi-Disciplinary Team Member
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and professional growth goals,
- Other work-related activities and duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Must have valid Washington State certification with special education endorsement.
Mandatory Conditions of Employment:
Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.
Current and ongoing certification in Right Response training (will be provided annually by district)
