Canby High School Family Newsletter
For the Week of Sept 24th to Oct 6th, 2021
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
We’re excited to say Homecoming is back! Next week, we’ll be celebrating the return of tradition: Football, homecoming court, The Dance. Of course, our events will look a bit different this year, but we want our students to have the experience, and feel welcome and safe. Our game will be preceded with a car parade, and our Dance will be held outside. More info is coming from our leadership students. We look forward to a fun week!
I hope everyone is aware of the school bond that was passed a couple of years ago to provide upgrades to schools around the District. For CHS, we have begun planning for major upgrades that include adding a new wing with twelve new classrooms, refurbishing old classrooms, creating new restrooms, and seismic upgrades. Please see the draft pictures below of the proposed addition. We will be connecting with students and the community for input as the planning progresses.
We’re almost at the halfway point of the first trimester and next week, our teachers will be providing progress reports at the end of next week. Students, check your progress with your teachers and on StudentVUE. Conferences are coming on Wednesday, October 13th.
Finally, tonight is Back to School Night from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This is a virtual event and you can access our teachers through Zoom links located here. Please see the detailed information in our separate email this afternoon.
Have a great week and Go Cougars!

Activities and Arts
STRIDE Academy: Students enrolled in the STRIDE Academy program are considered full students in the Canby School District. As such, STRIDE students can receive a CHS ID card and attend all CHS events. Please visit the student center for more information.
Senior Pictures are due November 29, 2021.
Athletics
We’ve had a few changes to schedules, mainly at the lower levels. Please check the master schedule linked here for all the current game times and locations. If you think one of our teams had great performances, nominate them for OSAA team of the week! The link is here.
A reminder that masks are required indoors for everyone who is not in active competition or practice. For outdoor athletics, masks are required for everyone who cannot maintain 6ft of social distance. Those who are competing or practicing outdoors may also choose to remove their masks. When we travel to away contests, some schools may adopt more restrictive guidelines. Please stay flexible throughout the season and follow the applicable guidelines.
This year, we have again purchased a license to broadcast all our home games on the NFHS Network for free! Away games may still require a subscription to the NFHS Network. Please go to NFHSNetwork.com and create a free account to watch all our games in the stadium and main gym.
Other Information
Homecoming Dance on Friday, October 8, starting at 8:00pm in the CHS Stadium. A decision will be made next week to change the venue location to Lee Elementary, under cover if there is rain. The dance is semi-formal, and admission is $10.
Picture retakes are October 25th in the Library during school hours.
Attendance and Sick Students
There are processes in place to help us track students in the event of illness or an early departure from school.
If a student is sick during class, they should go to the health room, located next to the counseling office. Our staff will contact the family for pick up.
If a student needs to be excused for an appointment or any other reason, please notify our attendance office at 503.263.7210 as soon as possible. This allows us to notify the teacher and excuse the student in a timely manner.
