About Real Alternatives
The nonprofit organization Real Alternatives partners with local health care and social service providers to operate more than 130 pregnancy support centers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Indiana. Since the launch of its first center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1996, it has connected more than 270,000 women with the support needed to confidently manage an unexpected pregnancy. A dedicated advocate of childbirth rather than abortion, Real Alternatives offers assistance with basic needs, such as food, shelter, and health care, while also providing adoption education, parenting classes, career resources, and other valuable resources. Real Alternatives’ network of state and regional service providers serves women throughout their pregnancies, as well as for 12 months following the birth of the baby.
Recognized by the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal as one of the most innovative nonprofits in the state, Real Alternatives has inspired similar pregnancy support programs throughout the country. In addition to launching new networks in Indiana and Michigan, the organization has also guided 12 additional states in developing their own programs.
