Work HARD! Dream BIG! Believe in YOURSELF! Never GIVE UP!
Volume 2 - Issue 3 - August 5, 2019
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
As we begin the third week of school I would like to thank our counseling team for working very hard to make sure that we met our contractual obligations related to student-teacher contacts. As of Friday August 2nd, we have 860 students enrolled at CVM and every teacher is at or under their contractual cap.
Due to lower enrollment than anticipated (~26 students less), a reduction in FTE's was done through an updated allocation, initially of 1.6 FTE's. That's over one and a half teaching positions! Fortunately, students continued to enroll throughout the week and we only had to cut .8 FTE. We accomplished this by closing classes with low numbers and not using .4 FTE that was currently not in use.
As a result, of the classes that were closed, and the necessary balancing that has to occur, some students schedules had to be changed. It is important for all of us to understand that although changes to students schedules during the first couple of weeks of school are not ideal, there are times when they are necessary. Our counseling team worked diligently to make sure that if a student needed a schedule change, they did it in a way that minimized the impact on the students schedule. Rest assured that each student is important to us, and each student has a schedule that will have him/her working towards promotion.
I also want to highlight this month's Cavalier Way Trait of the Month; Responsibility. Each month as part of our Cavalier Way Social Emotional Learning program, we focus on a character trait that we want all of our students to embody. Responsibility will be the focus of this month. Cavaliers taking responsibility for their own actions, and understanding how each action has an impact on ourselves, our community and ultimately, the world is what we want each of our students to learn.
Check out the video below on the Rings of Responsibility.
Thank you for your hard work and remember;
At CVM we work HARD, we dream BIG, we believe in OURSELVES and we never, ever , GIVE UP!

See Something, Say Something!
Students and parents can help too! The Sweetwater District partners with the Chula Vista Police Department and Crime Stoppers to help keep us all safe. With the use of the P3 Tips App, students and parents are able to download an App on their iPads or smart phones where they have the ability to submit anonymous tips to report a possible crime, bullying or if someone might be a danger to him/her self or others. The tips are reviewed by CVPD and together with our administration, they are investigated.
Please take a moment to watch a short video to learn more about the P3 Tips App. And make sure you download it on your school iPad or phone.
Remember, WE are ALL responsible for keeping our campus safe!

Would you like to volunteer?
Good afternoon Cavalier Parents!!
You should have received a Parent Involvement Interest Form in your welcome packet. If you would like to participate in CVM’s Parent Committees such as the School Site Council (SSC), the English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) and/or the Parent-Teacher Students Association (PTSA), please fill it out and return the form to the school’s Main Office – Room 110. If you do not have the form, we have attached a blank one here with the Principal’s Newsletter.
¡Buenas tardes, padres y tutores!
Thank you for your help,
