Check Out This Cool Stuff!
The Hour of Code is Coming!
Even though you may not understand everything there is to know about coding (I know I don't), exposing students to computer programming also challenges them to be problem solvers, project designers, and communicate their ideas.
The Hour of Code is coming... Is your class going to participate? Mark one hour during the week of December 8-14th on your calendar and check out the Hour of Code website.
Do you want to try your hand and coding? Check out Made with Code's projects for a fun experience!
Super Cook Resource: Remind
Remind offers teachers a free, safe, and simple way to connect instantly with students and parents. Teachers can send or schedule messages, photos or documents directly to parents’ phones. Communication is safe because phone numbers are always kept private.
A few teachers here at Roosevelt have already tried this service and are loving it! Let me know if I can help you set it up!
Kevin's New Favorite Find: Dashlane
This morning, at QIT, Kevin shared a new resource that he uses called Dashline.
Dashline is a free app that stores all of your passwords in a secure location, think bank secure, then fills it in for you when you go to a website. Just think... no more post it notes taped to your computer with all of your user names and passwords - this would just do it all for you! I am going to sign up and try it out for myself, but I know Dr. D thinks it's pretty amazing. When he goes to a website, Dashlane automatically fills it in for him.
Feel free to ask him for more information - or ask me in a week when I try it out!

Google Classroom Tips
Have you been wondering when you assign an assignment via Google Classroom, what the different levels of giving the assignment to the student mean? I've gotten a lot of questions on this aspect of Google Classroom, so I figured I'd outline them for you.
Students can view the file
When you choose this option, all of your students can view the same file. They will not be able to edit the document in any way.
Students can edit the file
When you choose this option, all of your students can EDIT the SAME document. Think collaboration!
Make a copy for each student
When you choose this option, all of your students will get a new copy of the document for them to edit individually. This would be the equivalent of you running to the copy machine, then making a copy for each student.
When your students are finished with their assignment, they can press the "TURN IN" button. This is just like them putting an assignment in your turn in tray. The item will also live in their Google Drive in their "Classroom" folder, but they will lose editing access until you "RETURN" it to them, very similar to how when a student hands in an assignment they can't make changes until you hand it back.
I hope that this makes sense to you! One of the hiccups that we've run into is if you go into EDIT an assignment, you don't have the option to "Make a copy for each student". If you need to change the access, delete the assignment, then reassignment with the correct "Make a copy for each student".
Let me know if you have any questions!
PRIMARY TEACHERS - you can use this too! Let's talk about how we can use this and Google Accounts in your classroom.
