National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated each year in November. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation. This November and every month, we celebrate the culture and heritage of these remarkable Americans who deeply enrich the quality and character of our Nation (US Dept. of Interior Native American Affairs). A special congratulations to our very own Mrs. Maurer for being presented Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year 2023 in Lansing, MI on November 2nd! We are so very proud of your accomplishments!

As part of the Girl Scouts Tree Promise, Troop 52020 along with the Buchanan Tree Friends planted a Honey locust at Moccasin Elementary and a Greenspire linden at Buchanan Middle School this week.

Homeless Awareness Month takes place every November in Michigan to raise awareness about issues relating to housing insecurity and homelessness and to get communities invested in making a difference. Linked here are resources for you to learn more.

A HUGE thank you goes out to the Buchanan Lodge #68 Free & Accepted Masons for presenting their wonderful $1,000 donation towards elementary roller skate and equipment rental to help our little bucks learn to skate!

Football players returned very late Friday night to turn around and help at Buchanan's Trek or Treat at this past Saturday's event!

The music department is running a fundraiser starting today through 11/17/2023. This fundraiser has a website where the community can purchase treats and gifts to support the choir and band program. On the left side of the process chart, you will see the common areas of district programming, and then following to the right would be the next step(s) in the Chain of Command for that district program area. Please start by contacting the staff member listed in the second box of each program area. The contact information for our leadership staff members with responsibility for addressing concerns is listed at the top of the diagram. Other contact information for building staff is available on our website in the “Staff Directory” section of each building’s web page. It is expected that most issues should be able to be resolved at these initial steps in the Chain of Command.

Buchanan Community Schools is a school district located in Buchanan, Michigan. In 2020, Buchanan was named the Nicest City in America and is known for its community concerts and parades. Buchanan Community Schools has over 1500 students and over 200 employees. The school district has four schools based on grade bands, Ottawa- PreK-1, Moccasin-2-4, Buchanan Middle School 5-7, and Buchanan High School 8-12.
