Principal's Pen...
Hello Spring...
What an exciting time of the year for our children, they get to demonstrate how much growth they've made since beginning school in the fall. April also brings state testing for third and fourth grades students in reading and math. We are so proud of how much our students have grown and matured since the fall.
Your Academic Partner,
Mrs. Bryant,

What all families should know about The Bus!
Please remember that students must remain in their seats on the bus at all time, students can not hop seats or hang over the back of seats. This is to keep all kids safe during the bus ride. Students with great bus behavior can be rewarded with "Bus Tiger Tickets" and get a chance for their names to be entered for a prize.
Your Partners in Education,
Mrs. Bryant and Mrs. Banks
Hello First Grade Families!
Hooray! Spring has sprung here at Rawsonville! Please make sure to check the daily forecast so that your child is dressed for the weather. We will be going outside unless it is raining or super muddy.
As the weather gets nicer. please make some time each night to do homework and to read with your child. It is so important for them to continue to build their sight vocabulary, reading fluency, and story retelling skills. Reading for just 15 minutes each night can help boost your child's reading skills drastically! Plan a trip to the local public library and check out some books while we are on Spring Break. You might find some new favorite stories to read together!
We are working on telling time and counting money here at school. These are difficult skills to master! Please practice both at home to support your child's development and to build their confidence.
As always, if you have questions, concerns or need help, please let us know. Remember, we are partners working toward your child's academic success!
Happy Spring!
Mrs. Garden, Mrs. Mounsey, & Mrs. Stremer
Happy Spring 2nd Grade Families!
Hooray! We all look forward to that beautiful weather!
Thank you to everyone that came out for conferences. If you were unable to meet at conferences and would still like to discuss your child's progress please let us know.
Over Spring Break, take advantage of going to the local library to check out some new and fun books to read with your child. It is extremely important that your child reads for at least 15 minutes each night to help build their fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and sight word vocabulary. Don't forget to have them write a little something about what they read or write a retell of the story. The more your child reads, the better they will get.
In math, we have been working on story problems, using different diagrams to help with the story problems, double digit addition/subtraction, and ball park estimates.
In writing, we are working on our Fairy Tales. We can't wait for our annual Fairy Tale Ball to celebrate when our stories are done.
As always, please make sure you child dresses appropriately for the weather.
If you need to get in touch with any of us please Dojo, email, or give us a call.
Thank you for your continued help and support with your child's education!
Your Second Grade Team
Mrs. Albulov, Ms. Carlin, and Mrs. Tibbs
Happy Spring 3rd Grade families!
We hope you all had a restful break. Thank you to all the families that attended spring conferences. We always enjoy the opportunity to discuss your child's growth. Please continue to work with your child with their areas of concern.
As discussed during conferences, 3rd grade will be taking the M-Step for the first time this year. The reading test will be administered on Monday, April 17, 2023 and the math on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Please look for more information to come home from your child's teacher.
We ask that you partner with us to make sure your Tiger "Finishes Strong" throughout the remainder of the year. Please help your child to pack their backpack the evening before to make sure they have everything for school each day. Please check for homework completion and make sure they are giving you information from their 'take home folder'.
Please monitor Class Dojo for school/classroom news and important dates.
Thank you for all you do!
The Third Grade Team,
Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Cunningham, & Mrs. Roberson
Happy April 4th Grade Tigers!
It is so exciting to finally say that we are now in our "Spring" season! We hope all enjoyed their Spring Break and had an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Thank you to all families that participated in Parent-Teacher conferences. We truly enjoyed discussing your child's strengths and areas of improvement.
On April 5, Owen Intermediate School (Mr. Salhaney and Mrs. Smith) will be visiting our 4th graders to give them an overview of their transition next year. They will take us through a virtual tour, share some brief information about electives, explain "Tiger" incentive opportunities, highlight after-school events, and introduce 5th grade faculty and staff. This is a great opportunity for our students to ask thoughtful and pondering questions in regard to their new journey next year.
Looking ahead, MSTEP is just around the corner. We ask that your child be in full attendance during our State Assessment dates. Fourth grade will begin with English Language Arts (Part 1 & 2) on Monday, April 24th and then proceed to Math on Wednesday, April 26th. Our amazing PTO has graciously provided a snack for all of our students on both of these testing dates. Please help the 4th grade team to ensure your child gets a good night sleep the night before (please minimize technology) and encourage your child to eat a healthful breakfast in the morning to energize the body and brain. Testing will begin promptly at 10:00a.m.
As always, thank you families for your continued partnership!
Educationally yours,
Mrs. Ali, Ms. Dagenais, and Mrs. Gyulveszi

Spring Fun!
It’s Springtime and the buds are on the trees, the air feels warmer and you can finally get out of the house and enjoy some time outdoors. Here are some kid friendly activities guaranteed to put a spring in everyone’s step!
#1. Enjoy Nature in Your Garden Who knew there was so much in our own backyards? Put out a bird feeder, go on a bug hunt or plant some seeds.
#2. Go on a Daffodil or Tulip Hunt Head to a nearby park or forest and go on a daffodil or tulip hunt. Have some fun seeing who can spot the first daffodil or tulip, and who can count to 100 flowers!
#3. Visit a Pet Farm This is the perfect time of year to visit a pet farm. After the long winter, the kids will love to run around the farm, taking in all the delights of spring.
#4. Go For a Spring Walk Head out for a family walk together and see what signs of spring you can find together. It could be buds on trees, new flowers appearing, or looking for signs of new life!
#5. Paint Spring Pictures Get out the art materials and paint some spring pictures together. Ask your child what they think they can see in Springtime and choose one or more things to paint. Maybe they would like to do a spring scene with lots of Springtime things in it. Rainbows are fun to paint too.
#6. Play Bunny, Bunny, RABBIT! If your kids have plenty of energy to burn, this is the game for them! As you’ve probably guessed, this is a spring variation on the classic duck, duck, GOOSE game.
Here’s how to play: Sit the kids down in a circle;
Select one child to be “it”;
The “it” child walks around the outside of the circle patting each player on the head and saying “bunny” until they want to say “RABBIT”;
Both the “it” child and the RABBIT must hop around the circle trying to reach the vacant spot; Whoever doesn’t make it to the spot in time is then “it”.
#7. Press Flowers Go out and search in the garden or nearby park/woods for some different flowers. You don’t need many just a few flower heads. Put them between the sheets of paper and halfway in the pile of the heavy books or in the flower press and tighten it. After a few days the flowers will be neatly pressed and have dried out. You can use these to make pretty pictures or cards.
#8. Get Coloring Print off some fun Easter coloring pages for the kids to color or paint. Then hang them up around the house.
#9. Read Some Classics Paddington Bear, Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland are all classic stories to enjoy.
#10. Cookie Fun Bake Cookies Together and decorate them with brightly colored icing.

For April let’s get moving! We’re looking at the resource near our school, Crosswinds Marsh! Crosswinds Marsh is 27600 Haggerty Road in New Boston. It is a nature preserve with 240 identified species of bird, including Bald Eagles, and 40 species of mammals including beavers.
It is open daily from dawn to dusk and has no admission fee. There are pedestrian trails over land and water. They also offer a selected variety of family and Scouting programs including an adventure kids summer series. The trails are clearly marked and easy for a family walk.
Check out their trail maps and more information at: https://www.waynecounty.com/departments/publicservices/parks/crosswinds-marsh.aspx

Art, Media, Music, and Physical Education
As the weather continues to get warmer, please make sure your child still has a sweatshirt, or sweater to bring to Art, Media, Music and Gym. The temperatures can continue to be a bit chilly at times, so it is best to dress in layers, or have a spare long-sleeved item of clothing at school.
Thank you for your support, Tiger families!

Intervention helps our students READ!
Spring is Here! As the weather gets warmer and the days longer, please remember to make time for Reading! Planning for a garden or interested in the upcoming sports season? Try finding some books about being outdoors, learning or trying sport(s), maybe some great books on gardening and Earth Day, or possibly fun books about science experiments to enjoy with the whole family!
As always, continue to practice reading using our 10-10-10 reading model, 10 minutes of reading on your own, 10 minutes of reading with a partner, and 10 minutes of having someone read to you.
We also have a wonderful selection of stories online using our Rawsonville Bedtime Stories Youtube page where you can see staff, students and community leaders read from a variety of interesting texts.
Happy reading Tigers!

PTO needs YOU!
Parent Engagement Coordinator
As we move toward warmer temperatures our goal will be to spend more time outside with our students. In order to make sure we are having fun in the safest way possible, we would like to ask parents to volunteer some time with us. The more eyes the better. Recess is a great way to get to know our students and show them we are truly family. If you are available during the lunch hour and would like to volunteer please call the school (734) 482.9845 and ask to speak with Mrs. Walker who will add you to the schedule. Information on how to go about getting a background check completed in order to volunteer will be available as well.
We are so excited to have you join us in this way!!!

Staying safe from the FLU information... We all need to do our part to keep schools open to in-person learning
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is a quick reminder to be mindful of a few things as we continue to navigate the cold and flu season. It is important that we work together to keep our children healthy.
Viruses/Common
Colds spread easily among children in schools, and families with school-age children have more infections than others. By keeping our children flu-free, it benefits the community as a whole.
You can help prevent the spread of flu and the common cold or help your child get better if
he/she does get sick by following a few simple steps:
● If possible, you and your child should get a flu shot to help prevent infection with the flu.
● Remind your child to cover his/her nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dispose of the tissue immediately. We teach them to cough or sneeze into the bend of their elbow, or to cough down into the front of their own shirt to help keep as many germs as possible off of their hands.
● Have your child wash his/her hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20
seconds. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available. Always follow with soap and water as soon as it is available.
● If your child is sick and has a fever, keep him/her at home to prevent the spread of illness to others. Your child should be naturally fever free (temp below 100 degrees, per CDC guidelines, without Tylenol or Motrin) for at least 24 hours before returning to school. This is very important! A good rule of thumb is to keep your child at home if he or she has a fever of 100 degrees or more. When temperature is present in the morning prior to school (99.0 or greater) it will only climb higher as the day progresses.
● Flu is a serious illness and children with the flu should not come to school. Flu symptoms include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, headache, and muscle aches. You must contact the doctor with these symptoms. If you are unsure about the symptoms, contact your doctor early.
● Cold symptoms include stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, and hacking cough. Colds often come on gradually, and are usually not serious.
