Principal's Corner
Greetings Harvey Dunn Families,
Welcome to 2023! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your family! As we wrap up the first semester of the school year in the days ahead, we reflect on all that has occurred. Teachers created caring classroom communities and built positive relationships with students. Students grew socially and academically, learning inside and outside of the classroom. Our band and orchestra shared their instrumental skills at their first concert. The fifth grade students entertained us with their musical talents, and our families volunteered to make memorable PTA school events possible. So much to celebrate! We look forward to all that is ahead as we move into the second half of our school year.
Kindest regards,
Mrs. Chamberlain, Principal
Lost & Found
Please put your child's name on their winter gear and items that are brought to school. In the event that something is lost, it will hopefully find its home more quickly. Here is the link for the current LOST AND FOUND. Anything not claimed by January 12th will be donated.
Winter Conferences
Mark you calendars! Conferences will be held on Monday, February 6th 12:00-7:00pm and Thursday, February 9th 3:00-7:00pm. Classroom teachers will be emailing out the sign-up form on January 27th. Looking forward to connecting and collaborating regarding your child's progress!
Counselor Corner
Hello, Harvey Dunn families!
As we close out one calendar year and begin to look ahead to another, it's a natural time to take stock and reflect on how things are going in our world. While we can certainly make changes and embrace fresh starts any day of the year, there is something hopeful and exciting about a brand new year with a clean slate. Even if New Year's resolutions aren't your thing, turning the page on the calendar (and soon, on the school quarter!) still offers us an opportunity to reset, regroup, and reimagine what we'd like to see for ourselves and our families in the coming months.
As we head into the second half of the school year, take some time to talk with your student about how it's been going so far, and how they'd like it to go the rest of the year. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- What has gone well so far? What do you like about your teachers? Your class? Your friends?
- What have been your favorite subjects, activities, or projects this year?
- What is the biggest difference you've noticed between last year and school, and this year at school?
- What has been a challenge this year? Something you are learning? Behavior? Friendships? Something else?
- Is there anything you wish was different? Or anything great you wish was even better? What would it look like if these changes happened?
- Are there any baby steps you could take to help you reach your goals? Who could help or support you at school? At home?
- How will I feel when I reach my goal?
As you reflect with your child, keep these things in mind:
- Celebrate successes. Maybe it's been a great year and it's easy to see what's gone well. But even in a tough year, joys can be found, and growth can be celebrated. Be sure to acknowledge and cheer for the wins, and be proud.
- When thinking about areas to make change or grow, consider ALL the different areas a child could show growth. Is it something academic, like reading or math facts? Is it something like organization, responsibility, or asking for help when needed? Maybe it's social - making new friends, learning to solve conflicts, or a specific social skill or coping skill. Maybe it's something to work on as a family.
- Finally, make sure to talk about how to be patient and kind to yourself while you pursue a goal. It doesn't happen overnight, and there might be bumps in the road - that's okay! It's all a part of learning and growing!
Enjoy your goal-setting, and Happy New Year!

Parking Lot Reminders
Students' safe arrival to and departure from school is a top priority. Please take time to review the reminders below. We are all here for the same reason, the children. When we all follow the guidelines during drop off, you help your child start their day off in a positive and safe manner, as well as the other families around you. Thank you for doing your part to make this process and procedure work.
- Park vehicles in the parking lot and walk students to and from the school using the crosswalks. If you are choosing to drop off students, use the circle drive or north drive.
- Only vehicles with handicap parking permits can park in the handicap spots.
- When pulling up in the circle drive or north drive before or after school remain in your vehicle and move forward as the line moves. This helps keep traffic moving.
- Students exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. In the circle drive, once you are in the student drop-off zone, students exit the vehicle. When more students are exiting the vehicles, we are able to move traffic through more efficiently.
- The north drive might be a faster alternative for morning drop-off when the circle drive is busy. Remain in your vehicle and move forward as the line moves. This helps keep traffic moving.
