The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
January 19, 2024
Dear Families,
What a crazy week we have had!! We have had some pretty stormy years in the past, but I never expected this one to happen and to lock down our city for so long. My hope is that you and your family have made it through okay and that you've escaped falling trees, broken pipes and more.
As I shared previously, we will work to reschedule missed conferences, so please look for communication from your child's teacher for available times. It also looks like we will need to reschedule the 5th grade Music Performance that was originally scheduled for next week (1/25). Students will need more time to prepare with Ms. ZWB. I will confirm the new date and let you know as soon as possible.
(Reminder) As you know, we are already near the end of the 2nd quarter already. Quarter 2 ends on 1/26 and teachers will be preparing student Report Cards on 1/29 (NO SCHOOL). Please look for your child's report card to come home with them on Monday, February 5th.
Warmly,
Principal Pam

Attendance Reminders
Parents – You’ve been doing a GREAT job of letting the office know when your student(s) are absent! But please be sure to let us know WHY your student(s) are absent. Our attendance system has a required drop-down Reason tab, and we’d like to be sure to get it right! Thank you for your help, and if you have any questions, please contact the office!
School Expectations & Safety Reminder
Parents, students who wish to hang out after school and play must be accompanied by an adult. Staff are not on duty past 2:20 pm.
Lately we have seen more students chewing gum during school. The expectation is that there is no gum at school. We find it in strange places and is not safe to be chewing during PE.

OBOB Families! The Practice Battle session scheduled for 1/18 had to be cancelled due to the weather and school being cancelled. Teams are encouraged to set up one-on-one practice battles as we won't be able to reschedule this event.
For questions and information, please contact sarah.s.sell@gmail.com or tstreet@pps.net (Mrs. Street/Teacher Librarian)
From the TAG Coordinator
Talented and Gifted Winter Nominations:
The process starts with a conversation between parent/guardian and the classroom teacher. Together you can decide if the student meets the qualifications and/or should be tested. Students with test scores from last spring and fall that qualify for TAG have already been sent out to families. If you did not receive notification and you would like to nominate the window will be open until January 26th. The three areas that PPS identifies in are intellectual, reading, and math. You may decide to nominate in any area that applies. Once the parent/guardian has communicated/requested nomination, the teacher will fill out the required form and submit work samples. If further testing is required to make a determination the school, in coordination with the TAG office, will schedule the tests to be given. Notification regarding identification status will be sent out in early spring and be active the following year. Again, please inquire/request with the classroom teacher as they are responsible for filling out the nomination form. They will be able to discuss work samples and assessment data in regards to TAG requirements.
If you missed the TAG Night on December 13th the district video of the slide show is here.
If you have further questions please reach out.

PTA Happenings
Man what a week! Hopefully this will all melt away soon so we can get back to our routines. We hope you are staying safe and warm while reading this. Here’s what is coming up in the next month or two….
Readathon kicks off on Wednesday, January 24! The website is up and running and ready for those pledges. We were hoping to get informational flyers out this week but we will have to wait until school resumes. However, watch Konstella and social media for more information about how it will work and how you can get family and friends involved in pledging toward your students’ minutes read. We have some school events planned by our teachers and will have a book-o-meter to track our minutes. There will also be prizes for most minutes read by students and by classes. Get those books ready and let’s goooo!!!
Reading Night is coming up on February 1. We are still working on getting some really wonderful readers to share their love of books with you. Look out for an announcement on Konstella to see what our schedule of readers will be!
Unfortunately due to weather, we had to cancel our January meeting, however, we are rescheduling to February 20 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. We are checking with speakers to see if they can still present. We will announce on Konstella what our content will be soon.
