The Nipmuc Drama Guild is hard at work as they countdown to their opening night of She Kills Monsters coming up this Friday, October 28 @ 7pm. The other showtimes will take place on Saturday, October 29 at 2:30pm and 7pm.

This week is a busy week for everyone involved with the show. To make the show a great success the drama guild is looking for parent volunteers for both this week and this weekend with concession and ticket sales. If you can sign up to either donate your time or snacks for the cast on the busy days you can sign up here. Please email Tam Johnson, Director at tjohnson@mursd.org if you have any questions.

Please be aware that tomorrow Tuesday, October 25 at 10:40am, we will be practicing a school safety drill with our students and staff. We are announcing this in advance so that students and families know to expect the drill. The drill will run from 10:40am until approximately 11:00am.

We will practice our lockdown protocols as well as barricading some classrooms to further secure the rooms in the event of an intruder in the building. Our drills will be run with support of Nipmuc School Resource Officer Ciara O'Connor and the Upton Police Department.

We recognize that these drills can bring out many emotions, even in a practice setting. Please don't hesitate to let us know if we can offer any support in preparation for the drill.

Conferences are only a few short weeks away and will be held on Wednesday, November 9 with time slots from 11:45am-2:15pm and Thursday, November 10 with openings from 6pm-8pm. Conferences are approximately 8 minutes in length and can be held virtually or in person. Please note how you will attend when signing up.

If you are unable to make it to parent/teacher conferences but would like to find a time to connect with the teacher or counselor, please leave your name at the bottom of the individual sign-up documents to be contacted by the specific teacher(s) or counselor.

On Friday, October 21, a group of students had the opportunity to travel to Boston for the STEM Week Challenge Showcase. Students created a group project that answered the question "How can we prepare and inspire people in Massachusetts to pursue STEM Careers that have the greatest potential for impact?". They then spent a few weeks preparing their posters for the showcase and were given the opportunity to present their projects to over 100 industry professionals from across the Commonwealth! At the showcase, students were able to interact with students from other schools, review other STEM projects, network with industry professionals, listen to an industry panel, and take pride in all of their hard work. It was a great event to wrap up STEM Week!

Nipmuc Ski Club will take place at Wachusett Mountain for the first 6 Wednesday nights of 2023. Registration for joining the Nipmuc Ski Club this year will run for 3 weeks from October 17th - November 4th, and is first come, first serve. We have 50 available spots on the ski club bus. Once the bus fills, we will start generating a wait list. If we have enough students on the waitlist to run a second bus, we will. Please visit our website to read about the registration process in advance of 10/17 so that you know how to enroll your child.

The candy is ordered and the treats are in. Halloween became a tradition at Nipmuc over the years. It is a day where students and faculty can showcase their creativity and imagination with their costumes and have some fun dressing up and trick-or-treating. This year trick or treating will take place outside (weather permitting) during the scheduled advisory time. Similar to last year, students will visit each department in the courtyard for some candy and fun treats. Check out some of the costumes from last year's Halloween at Nipmuc.

Feeling creative? Love a good scary story? Challenge yourself to write a two-sentence scary story! Visit the media center where there will be instructions on how to submit your story. The deadline to submit stories is Thursday, October 27. Students will vote for their favorite story in the media center on Friday, October 28 and the winner will be announced on Halloween. A fun prize will be given to the winner and their story will be shared with the Nipmuc community!

During April vacation 2024 the school trip will be to Italy. Below you will find the itinerary for the trip. Join us as we ride gondolas in Venice, visit Juliet’s house in Verona, take a cooking class in Florence, walk the streets of Assisi, learn about the history of the Roman Empire in Rome, discovery the ruins of Pompeii and relax on the Amalfi Coast and sail away to the island of Capri, and so much more. It’s going to be a trip to remember! Any current sophomores and juniors who attend Nipmuc are eligible for this trip.

*The price is based on 25 students traveling, when we get more than that the price will decrease.

The Taft Public Library & Nipmuc media center are joining forces again to bring you the Nipmuc Book Club on Tuesday, November 15th at 2:00PM at the Nipmuc media center. We are reading the graphic novel, Pumpkinheads, by Rainbow Rowell. Join us for a fun discussion and light refreshments. Please email Amy Townsley at atownsley@mursd.org to sign up. You can pick up the book in the media center from Ms. Townsley to make sure you read it ahead of time. We can't wait to see you and will let you know our next meeting date shortly!

On November 2, 2022, the Lions Club of Mendon will be holding the first session of the annual youth speech contest at The Mendon Senior Center located at 62 Providence Street, Mendon. The contest is open for students in grades 9-12 for the Towns of Mendon and Upton. The subject for this year’s contest is “Environmental Crisis: Fact or Fiction.” Details can be found at https://lionsyouthspeech.org/ Any interested students should see Mrs. Kinkela or their English teacher by October 21st.

Please make sure to stop by the lost and found table outside the main office to see if any of this belongs to you. Any items remaining in lost and found will be donated to a local organization on Friday, October 28.

School pictures and student ID cards were handed out to students on Wednesday last week. If your student missed school pictures or they don't like their school picture, our retake date has been set for November 3. All students should have their photo taken for their school ID even if they aren't purchasing a picture package.

The deadline for AP exam payments is coming up for students who are taking an AP class this year. An email was sent to students in AP classes and their parent/guardian on October 14 with more information. Payment must be submitted by November 4 at the latest in order for us to register students for their exam(s). Please refer to the October 14th email for information on cost and how to pay.
